In partnership with Iowa and Iowa State, Northern Iowa Student Government is planning a state-wide student lobbying day at the Capitol. We are inviting student organizations to register to not only attend the events but to represent the university and show the Legislators what your organizations are all about. Lunch, refreshments, transportation, and tables will be provided. If students need an excuse form to get out of class, those will be made available as the event nears. We ask that you bring 3 to 4 students to represent your organization.

 

The tentative schedule for the day is as follows:
  • 9:00 a.m. : Board bus for Des Moines outside Maucker Union
  • 11:00 a.m.: Arrive at the Capitol, Join your student organization and begin tabling. Reach out to your legislators, tell them why UNI and Higher Education is so important.
  • 2:00 p.m. : Press Conference Regents Student Body President's Speeches.
  • 3:15 p.m. Depart for UNI.
  • 5:15 p.m. Arrive at UNI.
As some of you may know NISG has run into some difficulties in the planning of Regents Day this year. In order to maintain our relationship and recognize the difficulties the other universities are having in the planning of this day, we may have to alter the date or cancel Regents day indefinitely. If it is in fact canceled there will be some form of press conference as well as smaller groups from UNI visiting the capitol. We recognize this may cause scheduling problems with student organizations. However, NISG wants to do what is best for all three Regents Universities.

Please sign up all your members with names and emails so we can maintain communication with everyone attending Regents Day. The day will include the presentation of student organizations, a press conference, and time to talk to your Representatives and Senators about the importance of UNI and our Regents Universities. NISG will hold multiple training sessions on the process of lobbying before the event. We require at least two members of your group attend these training sessions to get a better idea on the lobbying process and Regents Day at the Capitol.
