NISG appoints student positions to over 30 different university committees, providing student input on important matters across UNI. Additionally, NISG maintains four legislative committees with openings for non-senators. Through committee involvement, students can directly impact university decisions.

Advisory & Liaison Committee to Department of Military Science2
Advises the UNI administrative officer responsible for the ROTC activities and programs on campus.  Members are elected at-large from university faculty or appointed by the Senate or the Provost.  All faculty members, with exception of head of department of military science, must be in the bargaining unit.  Membership consists of two students appointed by NISG, two faculty members at large, two Faculty Senate appointed members, and two members appointed by the University Administration.Apply for this committee 
Art and Architecture Committee2
The Art and Architecture Committee serves as a liaison between artists, clients, and university administrators. The committee makes recommendations to the Vice President for Administration and Finance for the commission of an artist or purchase of artwork for capital improvement projects. The committee membership shall consist of at least seven voting members for consideration of each capital project. The committee is composed of the Head of the Department of Art, the Director of the Art Gallery, the Director of Facilities Planning, a representative of Student Services, a representative of University Advancement, two students appointed by NISG, and a project representative. Members are appointed for a three-year term and may be reappointed for an additional term.Apply for this committee 
Campus Advisory Group0

The purpose of the Campus Advisory Group would be: 1) To consult with the President of the University of Northern Iowa and provide advice on broad campus issues; and 2) To encourage and facilitate communications and coordination among the various constituencies at the University. NISG is represented by the President, Vice President of NISG and the Speaker of the NISG Senate.

Commencement Committee1

The Commencement Committee arranges commencement programs. The committee is responsible to the President. Permanent student members are the NISG President and Vice President and two addional students appointed by NISG.

Educational Policies Commission1
Researches and reports on the issues and implications of broad curricular and educational policies to the University Faculty Senate. As the commission engages in research; it may conduct polls and may sponsor hearings or interviews on issues within its province. On the basis of this research, the commission issues reports and recommendations to the appropriate university body, most often the University Faculty Senate. Membership is composed of one member from each of the five colleges, one at large, and five students, including three appointed by NISG. Meets annually and on call.

Energy Conservation & Sustainability Committee0
Identifies, considers, and recommending strategies that will enhance environmental awareness and energy conservation efforts on campus.
Facilities Planning Advisory Committee0
Assists in the development of campus planning including; building location, streets, walks, parking lots, and campus beautification. The committee is advisory to the Cabinet, with all fourteen members having voting rights. The committee reports to the Vice President of Administration & Finance. Committee members consist of two Deans, two academic department heads, two representing Faculty Senate, two representing Student Services, two appointed by the Vice President of Administration, one student appointed by NISG, and the NISG Vice President. Meets twice monthly at a time convenient for everyone.
GBPAC Advisory Board1
Advises the PAC Director regarding PAC planning, policies, and programming. The 22 member board includes seven UNI faculty and staff representatives, two UNI student representatives (one appointed by the dean of CHFA, the other by NISG), the president of the PAC "friends" organization and 12 regional representatives. The board, appointed by the president of UNI, meets at the call of the Chair. The full board meets bi-monthly, six times annually.Apply for this committee 
Government & Legislative Affairs2
The Government and Legislative Affairs committee lobbies on behalf of students and monitors outside groups for actions that affect UNI students.

Health & Safety Committee1
The specific responsibilities of this committee include review of standards, recommending changes to policies and procedures and working with the Public Safety Director to assure compliance with occupational safety and health measures.  The committee shall consider educational programs such as workshops and special training sessions, which will, develop awareness and understanding of sound safety practices and promote healthy lifestyles.

Intercollegiate Academics Fund0
This committee reviews applications submitted and allocates student fee dollars that are set aside for Intercollegiate Academic programs. Membership consists of two faculty members, NISG Vice President, and two students appointed by NISG. This committee meets twice a semester and as needed at a time convenient for everyone.
Intercollegiate Athletics Advisory Council0
Oversees all aspects of UNI's Intercollegiate Athletic program as it relates to the academic quality and integrity of the institution. Supports the development and maintenance of a competitive intercollegiate athletic program at UNI, which reflects favorably upon the University. Formulates and recommends new policies regarding athletics and student athletes. Serves as an advisory capacity to the intercollegiate athletic program. One appointed student and the Director of Administration represent NISG. Meets the first Monday of each month at 3:15.

Liberal Arts Committee0
Initiates or receives proposals from Colleges for changes in the Liberal Arts Core program.

Maucker Union Policy Board1
Revises and makes recommendations about the daily operations of the building, fiscal matters, policies and regulations for the operation of the Union, use of the facilities, and shall coordinate programming. Membership shall consist of twelve students: nine chosen through search and application and three appointed by NISG; one Alumni; one faculty member appointed by the President; one representative appointed by the Vice President for Educational and Student Services; the controller of the University; the Assistant Directors of Student Activities and Business and Operations of the Union; and the Director of the Union and the Secretary of the Union Policy board will have ex-officio status. This committee meets every three weeks on Wednesday.

Naming University Facilities Advisory Committee1

The Naming of University Facilities (Advisory Committee) was established to offer recommendations to the President's Cabinet for the naming of campus facilities. The Committee's responsibilities include consideration of requests forwarded to the Cabinet from the University community and initiation of recommendations to name university facilities in honor of individuals who have rendered distinguished service to the institution.

Organization & Finance5
The Organization & Finance committee is responsible for the budget and for recognition of student organizations. The NISG Funding and Recognition Guidelines set the rules by which the committee votes to distribute funding.

Parking Appeals Committee3
Hears appeals to tickets issued by Public Safety for parking violations. The Committee is composed of six staff members appointed for a four year term by the Vice President for Administration and Finance and three students appointed annually by NISG. The Support Services Coordinator of Public Safety serves as an ex-officio, non-voting member. The Committee meets weekly or at the call of the Chair, who is elected by the committee. Pepsi Fund Committee4
The Fund seeks to provide a new, unique, and flexible funding source to UNI student organizations, and to supplement those monies already available from other sources.  Requests will be evaluated based upon merit rather than a strict set of prescriptive guidelines.

The Public Relations and Programming committee coordinates student programs and promotes activities of interest to the student body.

Public Safety Advisory Committee1
Serves as an advisory body to the Vice President for Administration and Finance and recommends policies and procedures to control traffic on campus. In addition, it receives, evaluates, and recommends alternatives for providing adequate parking for faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The committee is comprised of seven staff members appointed for a four-year term by the Vice President for Administration and Finance and three students appointed annually by NISG. The Director of Public Safety serves as an ex-officio, non-voting member. Meetings are monthly or at the call of the chair.Apply for this committee 
Stormwater Management Team1
The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) was established under the authority of the Clean Water Act in 1972. The NPDES program is responsible for controlling and regulating point sources of discharge of pollutants to waters within each state to maintain, protect and restore the water quality of streams, lakes and rivers. In 1990, Phase I of the NPDES storm water program was established to regulate storm water runoff. In 1999, Phase II of the NPDES storm water program was established and required communities that were not part of Phase I to develop and implement a comprehensive Storm Water Management Program. Those communities that were included in Phase II of the program were designated as Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems.Apply for this committee 
Student Academic Appeals Board0
Hears appeals according to procedures outlined for redress of student grievances in the Policies and Procedures Manual. The Board consists of five elected faculty members and four students appointed by NISG. The committee meets on-call.

The Student Affairs committee serves as a forum for student concerns and interviews candidates for University committees.

Student Computing Advisory Committee1
This committee considers policies, priorities, and strategic plans for the establishment, equipping, operation, and maintenance of the Student Computer Centers located throughout the campus. This committee advises the Associate Vice President for Information Technology on the allocation of the computer fees for the support of the ITS Student Computer Centers. Membership consists of the Vice President of Academic Affairs, Vice President for Administration and Finance, Vice President for Educational Student Services, one student from each college, a representative of ITS, a graduate student, and three members appointed by NISG for one year terms. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month.

Student Records Hearing Panel0

This panel conducts hearings when students have questions or concerns about information contained in their educational records and are unable to resolve the issues through informal procedures. The panel has the authority to amend educational records if information contained therein is deemed inaccurate, misleading, or in violation of the privacy rights of students.

Student Services Fee Committee0
The Student Services Fee Committee will consider any proposed student activity funding changes at the University and will make recommendations concerning student activity fee changes to the University President for review.  The ten members of the committee include five appointed by the president and five students including the NISG President, Organization and Finance Chair, and three at large students appointed by NISG.

Wellness and Recreation Services Advisory Board2
This committee is charged with providing input from the campus community to the Wellness/Recreation staff regarding programs/services offered, quality of service, and customer policies. They provide much needed information to the Facilities joint-use committee and Student Activity Fee Committee as to the use of student monies. Their main goal is to maximize use of the Student Health and Activity Fee within program components. The membership is made up of a wide range of students including two appointed by NISG and a few faculty members from across campus.Apply for this committee
