- Student Organization Fair:
Campus wide student organization fair on Sebtember
17, 2003 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Maucker
Union.
- Student and Faculty gathering:
The University of Northern Iowa Muslim students Association
cordially invites Muslim faculty, staff, and their
families to a reception dedicated to Muslims at UNI
to meet other Muslims.

Invitation for UNI students and faculty to join the
UNI MSA and the muslim community for Iftar and enjoy

| Islam
Awareness Week (IAW) at a glance
- Sporadic programs have been held since the 1960s
and were organized by individual MSA chapters
- 1994: first attempt to formalize IAW as a national
event, held across campuses in the second week of
November
- With sufficient interest, IAW has grown into IAMonth
on some campuses
Chapters often co-sponsor activities with Near East
Studies Dept, Department of Religion, Department of
Anthropology, and student organizations such as the
Arab Student Association, Black Student Union, and
Hispanic groups.
Objective
- To educate the campus community about Islamic beliefs,
values, customs, and culture
Goal
- To increase awareness of and foster mutual respect
for Islamic beliefs, values, customs, and culture
Funding
- Most often through contributions from students and
the Muslim community but
also from the University Student Government budget
at most private universities and colleges.
Possible topics:
- Education: what Muslims believe in, what Muslims
do not believe in, usually presented through lectures,
info tables in the quad etc.
- Social issues/Domestic issues: Gender equity, Concern
for Social Welfare, Poverty, Homelessness, Drug Abuse
etc.
- Cultural understanding - presentations of the culture
of diverse races and ethnicities among Muslims
- Muslim Contributions to Medical/Technological progress
- History/Heritage - Islam around the world and through
the ages
- International issues affecting majority Muslim
populations
(Palestine/Chechnya/Kashmir/Iraq/Gujarat and others)
- International Food festival (dishes from various
parts of the world)
Annual Iowa Conference
on Islam (ICI) at a glance
- Annual Iowa Conference have been held since 2001
and are organized by Iow Muslim Students Associoation
which consists Muslim Students Associations of several
Universities and Colleges in the state Iowa.
- Among these Universities are University of Northern
Iowa, Iowa State University, University of Iowa and
many more.
- Annual Iowa Conference on Islam is held every spring,
some time during the month of March.
- Each year the Iowa Muslim Students Association decides
where and when the Annual Iowa Conference on Islam
will be held.
Objective
- To educate the campus community about Islamic beliefs,

- Bring Muslim communities together to help and educate
each other more about their religion "ISLAM".

through seminars and other activities.

- Organized a co-sponsored event with the religion
department titled "Jesus & Mohammed".

- Invited guest speaker from Minneapolis
1998 - 1999
- Took part in celebrating the Diversity Week:
- Invited guest speaker - Imam Siraj Wahaj from New
York city.
- Took part in the fundraiser held to collect money
for Kosovo
- Invited guest speaker from IslamIc Center of Minneapolis.

on campus
