UNI Greek Community Residence Hall Release (RHR) Policy

The following guidelines are in effect regarding the release of students from Residence Hall contracts without penalty for the purpose of moving into a fraternity or sorority.

  1. Each chapter will have the opportunity to request the release of one member from Residence Hall Housing and Dining contracts per academic year.
  2. Each house is allotted only 1 release. Therefore, no trading or borrowing on releases is allowed. (If AAA has one release left, they cannot loan it to BBB.)
  3. Members wishing to use the releases must fill out a form that can be picked up in the Student Involvement and Activities Center.
  4. The Greek Advisor will have an additional four (4) releases per academic year that will be available to chapters through an application process.
  5. Students wishing to be considered for a release must complete an application and the Greek Advisor must sign it.
  6. The Greek Advisor will disburse allotted releases based on the following criteria:
    1. Academic Achievement: applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. Applications will be prioritized based on Grade Point Average.
    2. Classification: students who have earned a minimum of 30 credits will be given first priority.
  7. Releases are good for one academic year. Students who are in the first year of a 2-year contract are not eligible.
  8. All Residence Hall Release (RHR) Applications must be signed by the Chapter President and the Greek Advisor and then submitted for final approval to Lyn Redington in the Department of Residence (Redeker Center).
  9. RHR’s are not transferable from year-to-year. Therefore, any unused releases will not be applicable to the next academic year.
  10. If any of these policies are violated, DOR and/or Student Activities reserve the right to cancel, rescind, or deny all privileges related to this policy.
  11. All applications must be completed and turned in to the Department of Residence by the third Friday of the semester at 5pm.
