of Greek Terms 
Active Member-an initiated member of a sorority/fraternity
Alumna-a member that has graduated from her chapter
Bid-an invitation to membership in a chapter
Greek-a term applied to members affiliated with a Greek-letter organization
Initiation-the ceremony in which a new member becomes an active member
Legacy-the daughter, sister, aunt of an initiated member
NPC-National Panhellenic Conference – A body of delegates from the 26 national sororities
New Member-A member of a sorority that is not yet initiated
Panhellenic-A Greek word meaning "All-Greek"; the governing body of the sororities at UNI
Philanthropy-an active effort to promote human welfare. The UNI Greek Community adopted "Jamie and Jim's Kids" as their on-going philanthropy. JJK's is a non-profit organization that raises money to send chronically and terminally ill children from Waterloo/Cedar Falls to Disney World (free of charge!)
Ritual-the secret expression of the values and principles that the sorority was founded on
Quota-the number of new members which any sorority may offer bids to during formal recruitment
Recruitment Guest-an undergraduate student who is taking part in the recruitment process
Sister-a term used when referring to other (new) members
Sorority-a Greek-letter sisterhood
