Academics
The object of education is to prepare the young
to educate themselves throughout their lives.
--Robert M. Hutchins
The academic portion of any college career is a significant determinant of one's future success. The core objective of each fraternity and sorority is to encourage and develop high academic success among their members. Several factors such as tutoring, academic advising, and chapter study hours allow new students to get more out of what they are studying. Other help includes knowing others who may be taking, or have already take the same classes, as well as getting advise on which classes and instructors are the best within each field of study.
Additionally, many chapters require study tables and minimum GPAs in order to maintain good standing within their organization. The goal of study tables is to encourage cooperative and quiet studying among chapter members. These hours are often held at chapter houses or at the Rod Library. They are seen as a very effective way for members to study and get to know one another better at the same time. During mid-term and final exam week, many chapters provide a quiet atmosphere conducive to studying.
The combination of friendships and brotherhood/sisterhood, along with solid goals of academic excellence will help you become a well-rounded, intelligent member of the university community, as well as the work force after you graduate.
