Julia Heuer has been named Military and Veteran Student Services Coordinator, reporting to Dean of Students Leslie Williams. Heuer is a recent graduate of the University of Iowa’s Master's of Social Work program. She served four years in the United States Army as an Intelligence Analyst and was stationed in South Korea, Ft.Stewart, Georgia, and Bosnia. Dean of Students Leslie Williams has announced that Kristin Woods has been promoted to Assistant Dean of Students for New Student Programs. Kristin’s work at the university in the areas of first year experience and retention has been unquestionably significant. She has partnered with Academic Affairs to create new retention efforts, support the development of the Cornerstone program, and improve orientation for new students.
The division has a celebratory tradition of expressing appreciation to staff for their service and accomplishments at an annual recognition luncheon. The next luncheon will be held on January 10, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Old Central Ballroom of Maucker Union. Dr. Debra Derr, President of North Iowa Area Community College, will speak to staff about the importance of their roles in helping students succeed. Staff will be recognized for their milestone years of service, and recipients of the Sue Follon Exemplary Service Award will be announced at this time.
Three of the four recipients of this year's Regents Staff Excellence Awards are from the Student Affairs Division:Tim Bakula, associate director of the Office of Student Financial Aid; Rosanne L. Lang, dining unit manager, Rialto dining; and Lyn Redington, director of residence life.
