UNI community says, "Thank you and good luck!" to Jon Buse, departing Dean of Students
Jon Buse is completing his service to UNI as the Dean of Students in early December. At a farewell reception November 14, staff, faculty, students, former colleagues and alumni gathered to acknowledge the impact he has had at UNI. Jon will continue his career as Dean of Students at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. An article in the Nothern Iowan includes comments from presenters at the farewell event and photos. Youth visiting campus gain a range of experiences including health promotion
Students from the Expo Alternative Learning Center visited campus in early November to explore career paths and experience the college campus setting. Among other activities hosted by Dante Means, Admissions, the group met Mark Rowe-Barth, Substance Abuse and Violence Intervention Services Coordinator in Wellness and Recreation. Mark facilitated a conversation about alcohol and understanding blood alcohol level.
Psychiatric nurse practitioner joins the Student Health Clinic team
Nan Ambrosy, psychiatric nurse practitioner, has joined the Student Health Clinic team. According to Shelley Matthews, Student Health Clinic director, the addition of a full time professional with psychiatric training enables the medical team to provide more complete care to UNI students. Ambrosy accepts students who are referred by the medical team at the Student Health Clinic and by the counseling team at the Counseling Center.
Success rate of UNI Vocational Rehabilitation office earns statewide recognition
Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Services works with individuals with disabilities who want to become employed. Receiving an education at UNI is one important factor in securing employment.
Staff members honored with 2011 Regents Staff Excellence Awards (with photo)
Congratulations to two Student Affairs staff members who recently received the Regents Staff Excellence Award. The recipients are Phil Patton, University Registrar, and Cheri McDivitt, Food Service Supervisor at Fresh Beginnings. The awards are presented annually to professional and scientific staff, and biennially to supervisory/confidential merit personnel who have demonstrated outstanding professional contributions to UNI during their careers.
