Woods promoted to assistant dean of students

Dean of Students Leslie Williams has announced that Kristin Woods has been promoted to Assistant Dean of Students for New Student Programs.  Kristin’s work at the university in the areas of first year experience and retention has been unquestionably significant.  She has partnered with Academic Affairs to create new retention efforts, support the development of the Cornerstone program, and improve orientation for new students.  

Division luncheon set for January 10, 2013

The division has a celebratory tradition of expressing appreciation to staff for their service and accomplishments at an annual recognition luncheon.  The next luncheon will be held on January 10, 2013, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Old Central Ballroom of Maucker Union.  Dr. Debra Derr, President of North Iowa Area Community College, will speak to staff about the importance of their roles in helping students succeed.  Staff will be recognized for their milestone years of service, and recipients of the Sue Follon Exemplary Service Award will be announced at this time.

LGBT activists provide awareness at UNI

NOH8 (No Hate) Campaign is a photographic silent protest which resulted from the Proposition 8 passed in California amending the state Constitution ban same-sex marriage. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths symbolizing their voices being silenced. The University of Northern Iowa, UNI Proud, ONE Iowa, UNI Feminist Action League,  and the Northern Iowa Democrats are joining together to provide a free NOH8 photo shoot at UNI. The photo shoot is set for December 6th from 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. in the Maucker Union Ballrooms.
