UNI Dance Marathon exceeds fundraising goal

On Saturday, March 1st, UNI Dance Marathon hosted its 3rd annual "big event" in Maucker Union to raise money for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. More than 1,100 students registered for this year's UNI Dance Marathon to support kiddos receiving care at the UI Children's Hospital and their families. Together they raised $176,498.03 for the hospital! This exceeds their fundraising goal by more than $50,000 and places UNI Dance Marathon in the top 18 Dance Marathons in the nation.

Student Affairs staff honored with 2014 Diversity Matters Award

Three Student Affairs Division staff were among the eight individuals honored with a Diversity Matters Award this year. Paul Sapp and Bryant Dowd of Admissions and Kathy Green of University Health Services were presented with the award during the Sixth Annual Diversity Town Hall on January 22. UNI Dining featured as an "Iowa Local Food Champion"

UNI Dining Services now spend about 29% of their total food purchasing budget on foods from within 250 miles of campus. The purchases made by UNI Dining Services not only help to support local farmers but also the university, as some of the produce is purchased from the student-led campus gardens, Panther Plot. This local food purchasing effort has not gone unnoticed either!

Michelle Czarnecki and Ellie Hail win case study competition at the NASPA IV-East Regional Conference

On November 5, Michelle Czarnecki and Ellie Hail, second year graduate students in the Post Secondary Education: Student Affairs programs, won the case study competition at the 2013 National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) IV-East Regional Conference. The case study competition strives to cultivate the ability of graduate students to apply theory to practice, while also giving students the chance to showcase their skills and receive feedback from professionals in higher education.
 

Tabatha Cruz named “20 under 40” award winner

In September, Tabatha Cruz, Center for Multicultural Education Program Coordinator, was named to the “The Waterloo/Cedar Falls Courier’s Class of 2013 20 Under 40.” Each year, the Courier honors outstanding young people in the Cedar Valley who are making a difference in their work and personal lives to make the area a better place.  Tabatha was one of twenty outstanding award winners this year.  A reception for the winners is planned for November 19, 2013 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hawkeye Community College, Tama Hall. Congratulations, Tabatha, on your accomplishment!
