Youth visiting campus gain a range of experiences including health promotion
Students from the Expo Alternative Learning Center visited campus in early November to explore career paths and experience the college campus setting. Among other activities hosted by Dante Means, Admissions, the group met Mark Rowe-Barth, Substance Abuse and Violence Intervention Services Coordinator in Wellness and Recreation. Mark facilitated a conversation about alcohol and understanding blood alcohol level.
“The fatal vision goggles simulate different blood alcohol levels and provide an opportunity for students to, quite literally, see and feel what it's like to be impaired, and then discuss those implications and potential negative consequences,” Mark said, “This was also an opportunity for them to see an example of a health promotion/education activity. Mark also discussed careers in recreation and health promotion/education.”
