UNI spring MAP-Works contributes to new student success
Between January 31 and February 21, 2012, new freshmen at UNI are strongly urged to increase their chances of social and academic success by taking the 15-minute MAP-Works (Making Achievement Possible) spring survey. Ninety-two percent of UNI freshmen took the Fall 2012 survey. Immediately after taking the spring survey each student receives an individualized, confidential report that includes valuable feedback, recommendations and information related to succeeding in college.
Faculty/staff with professional connections to each student also obtain access to the reports. These “Direct-Connects” use the information to connect with their students, offering encouragement, information and referrals related to freshman success.
Beyond the basic incentive of learning about how to succeed, freshmen can also win prizes for participating. Those who take the survey the first day, January 31, will be eligible to win one of ten $50 Walmart gift cards. Those taking it by February 7 will be eligible for the Grand Prize of a $1000 reduction on their University bill. Additionally, off-campus students who take the survey by February 7 are eligible for one of five $20 Walmart gift cards. On-campus freshmen whose houses achieve an 85% response rate by February 21 will help their houses win $50 celebrations.
MAP-Works is a collaborative project of the university’s Divisions of Student Affairs and Division of Academic Affairs, under the direction of the First Year Council.
