FAQs
Do I have to attend orientation?
Yes. Orientation is mandatory for all incoming students, and is the avenue by
which you will meet with academic advisors and register for classes. While you
may have experience as a student at a different college or university, it is
important that you learn about the academic programs and policies unique to the
University of Northern Iowa.
Orientation is not mandatory for parents or guests, but they are encouraged to attend. We have designed a separate parent and guest program that runs concurrently with the program for students.

How do I make a reservation for orientation?
Online reservations will begin in late October for those who have been admitted for
the spring semester. After receiving your invitation letter, make a reservation for
orientation here.
Will my family members or guests be with me when I schedule classes?
No. You will meet one-to-one with an academic advisor, and schedule classes with the
assistance of orientation staff members. At the conclusion of orientation, advisors
will be available as needed to answer family members' questions regarding classes,
