The campus community is welcome to attend an upcoming program organized by the Student Affairs Diversity committee. â€œCall to action: A more inclusive campusâ€ will be presented Tuesday, March 30, 1 â€“ 2:30 p.m., and again on Wednesday, March 31, 10 â€“ 11:30 a.m., at Old Central Ballroom of Maucker Union. This is the seventh program in the Insights for Effectiveness series.
The program will include:
â€¢ First-hand accounts by student, faculty and staff panelists regarding their experiences with on-campus bias-based incidentsâ€”followed by question and answer time.
â€¢ Information about what is being done systematically at UNI to prevent bias-based incidents and to address them when they happen.
â€¢ Information on effective responses to bias-based incidents.
â€œThis academic year has seen heightened awareness by many on campus regarding incidents of bias-based behaviors in our university community,â€ said Dr. Terry Hogan, Vice President for Student Affairs. â€œThe Student Affairs Diversity Committeeâ€”in an effort to contribute to the building of a more inclusive communityâ€”has designed another professional development opportunity for staff in our division. â€œ Members of campus community may attend.
â€œThe campus environment is enhanced when we have these conversations,â€ said Hogan. â€œI commend the Diversity Committee for their diligence and hard work, as they strive to help us understand and appreciate individual differences. Their work has elevated the important topic of diversity and its benefits. We need to make steady progress to ensure that everyone feels valued and respected.â€œ
