Posted on Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Kari Dirksen, a University of Northern Iowa junior studying leisure, youth, and human services, was named the spring 2010 recipient of the $500 Wellness and Recreation Services Scholarship. Dirksen, from Le Mars, is a student employee with UNI's Wellness and Recreation Services working as a facility manager, rock wall supervisor and outdoor recreation office assistant.

The scholarship is supported by Kathy Green, director of Wellness and Recreation Services and University Health Services, in honor of four generations of women in her family who have graduated from UNI. One scholarship is awarded each semester.

In order to be selected for the award, the student must be employed by UNI's Wellness and Recreation Services, understand wellness and the role individuals play in contributing to the well being of others and have excellent communication skills.
