Events focus on prevention of violence against women
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. A series of events have been planned to educate the community and elevate awareness of sexual assault prevention. UNI Violence Intervention Services, under the leadership of Mark Rowe, Substance Abuse and Violence Intervention Coordinator, is a community partner in April events.

Students visiting from Gary, Indiana, get a variety of UNI experiences
The Gary Community School Corporation, Gary, Indiana, brought 30 students to visit UNI for their annual recruiting trip Thursday-Friday, March 25-26. The group included juniors and seniors.
Participants in state event get a glimpse of what UNI has to offer
University of Northern Iowa had an impact on students participating in the Make Me a World in Iowa event. The annual event is a 2-day festival that highlights African American arts, culture and contributions through education, awareness and preservation. It was held at the Polk County Convention Complex in late January.
March 30, 31: Student Affairs staff will focus on making UNI a more inclusive campus
The campus community is welcome to attend an upcoming program organized by the Student Affairs Diversity committee. “Call to action: A more inclusive campus†will be presented Tuesday, March 30, 1 – 2:30 p.m., and again on Wednesday, March 31, 10 – 11:30 a.m., at Old Central Ballroom of Maucker Union. This is the seventh program in the Insights for Effectiveness series.
Financial Aid topics organized to benefit UNI faculty and others

The newsletter provides financial aid information to assist faculty and staff in their work and communication with students.

Student organizaiton collects funds to benefit Haiti
The University of Northern Iowa Multicultural Teaching Alliance and Muchas Manos Light Work have teamed up to promote a cause that will benefit the people of Haiti. An account has been established at Veridian Credit Union, and it will be open now through March 12.
UNI employee Clint Holtz honors his supervisor, Lisa Krausman, with National Guard Award Nomination
The Iowa committee for employer support of the Guard and Reserve, an agency of the Department of Defense, announced that Lisa Krausman, Manager of Rialto Dining at University of Northern Iowa, was honored with a Patriotic Employer Award in recognition of extraordinary support of employees who serve in the Iowa National Guard and Reserve.
Black History Month film series continues February 22-24
The Black History Month film series continues Monday, February 22 to Wednesday, February 24, with the viewing of "The War Years and The Civil Rights Movement." This 3-disc DVD set includes original documentaries, dramatizations, government films, interviews, and historical footage made between 1937 and 1997. The event will be held in the CME lobby in Maucker Union.
Scholarship helps student employee while honoring staff member's family legacy
Kari Dirksen, a University of Northern Iowa junior studying leisure, youth, and human services, was named the spring 2010 recipient of the $500 Wellness and Recreation Services Scholarship. Dirksen, from Le Mars, is a student employee with UNI's Wellness and Recreation Services working as a facility manager, rock wall supervisor and outdoor recreation office assistant.
