The focus of the Spotlight Day is on STEM projects that integrate technology in the PreK-12 and university curriculum.  The Spotlight Gallery (table displays) from 9:30 - 11:30 am.   Spotlight Presentations (20 min presentations, every 30 min) from 1:30 - 3:30 pm.   This is a great opportunity to hear about authentic applications of science and math in PreK-12 classrooms and to talk with teachers and students to get their perspective of learning with hands-on, inquiry-based, interactive science, math and technology programs.

Plans are rapidly coming together for activities of the Governor's STEM Advisory Council, including regional STEM networks for Iowa, scale-up of exemplary programs, and action planning on seven priorities including teacher recruitment, public awareness, STEM pipeline diversity, and public-private partnerships. The next opportunity to participate in UNI's monthly STEM Education meetings is Wednesday Nov. 9th (5 to 6PM, Maucker Union, Oak Room).  Our guest speaker will be Dr. Edward Rathmell.  The discussion themes will include: "The importance of UNI faculty engaging Iowa's K-12 students in the STEM fields, best practices in doing so, and how do we gain momentum to 'STEM-ahead' if we are to reach our primary goals of increasing the presence and quality of STEM Ed. in Iowa!!!

A collaboration of the Iowa Mathematics and Science Education Partnership (IMSEP) and the State Hygienic Laboratory, iExploreSTEM is a free, hands-on festival for Iowa’s elementary and middle school students and their families designed to spur interest in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math.  This one-day event will feature compelling, educational and entertaining activities, stage events and exhibits to boost kids’ interest in STEM.  It will also help raise awareness by both parents and children of the STEM-related educational and career opportunities available in Iowa.

STEM experts from around the state are invited to join as sponsors and exhibitors.
