Why Choose the METRO Area?

The METRO area, like the other centers around the state, has quality placements for student teachers. From the larger city schools found in Omaha to the smaller suburban settings just outside Council Bluffs at Lewis Central, you will find professional educators who think of their children first. These cooperating teachers are excellent role models and mentors for student teachers who are willing to put forth the necessary time for learning the skills needed to be an effective educator.

In addition to the cooperating teacher, you will find a METRO Cadre member in over 30 buildings to help assist you at any time. The role of the cadre member is to serve, at the building level, as a member of the "theory/practice" team that assists the University of Northern Iowa in bridging the "theory/practice" gap. They will mentor and coach both the student teacher and the cooperating teacher, as well as provide input to the UNI Teacher Education Program.

The METRO area includes a large metropolitan region with the cities of Council Bluffs and Omaha. You will have many educational sources and experiences available to you during your stay in this part of the state. Any student teacher that is willing to put forth the effort required to become an effective teacher will find the schools within the METRO area a place to achieve such success. Your best is expected at all times, but the very best is given in return. The time spent in this valuable experience must be your primary goal for the semester you are "in the field," but the end rewards are the ultimate capstone to your years of preparing for this moment.
