The metro cadre is a group of master teachers who provide support and encouragement for area student teachers. There is a cadre member in every school in the Council Bluffs and Lewis Central school districts. Omaha has five representatives. The cadre members have many areas of expertise, such as, providing and building support. Area student teachers meet all cadre members at receptions held in September and January. Individual contacts and a cadre support seminar follow up this initial meeting. Cadre members serve on one of four committees and meet throughout the school year.
Committees include:
Student Teacher Support: The focus of this group is the development of strategies that are designed to add both cognitive and affective support to student teachers.
Cooperating Teacher Support: This group is designed to both recognize and support cooperating teachers. They help to plan a cooperating teacher tea each semester.
Research: This group promotes research opportunities for both cooperating teachers and student teachers. Last year this group awarded three cooperating teachers and their student teachers a five hundred-dollar grant for an action research project on family literacy.
Communication: The focus of this group is promoting the Metro Cadre’s visibility. They develop public relations material and publish a newsletter.
