Glossary of Terms


Clinical Supervisor - an experienced educator with appropriate expertise to assist your cooperating teacher with your supervision and guidance. Sometimes clinical supervisors assist the cooperating teacher with mid-term and final evaluations. Clinical supervisors visit and observe you approximately every other week.


Cooperating Teacher
- the teacher in whose classroom you will conduct your student teaching. This person is your primary mentor who will guide and advise you through your student teaching experience. Your cooperating teacher is responsible for completing your mid-term and final evaluation. Some students have only one cooperating teacher, others have more than one, depending on the placement.


Human Relations - this course is required for all teaching majors. Generally students who plan to student teach out of state or internationally take Human Relations on campus the semester prior to student teaching. Human Relations is taught in the summer, fall and spring semesters.


International Student Teaching - students may apply to complete their student teaching in any country around the world. The Out of State and International Student Teaching Program faculty and staff will research sites and determine if a student teaching placement is appropriate. You must apply and be accepted into this unique student teaching program. You may apply to student teach in locations where other students have gone in the past, or to entirely new sites.


QUICKTRIP


Native American School
- any school, k-12, serving a predominately Native American population.


Out of State Student Teaching
- students may apply to complete their student teaching in any of the 50 U.S. states. The Out of State and International Student Teaching Program faculty and staff will research sites and determine if a student teaching placement is appropriate. You must apply and be accepted into this unique student teaching program. You may apply to student teach in locations where other students have gone in the past, or to entirely new sites.


Placement Coordinator - each student going out of state or internationally is assigned a Placement Coordinator from the Out of State and International Student Teaching Program. This person works closely with the student the semester prior to student teaching to coordinate and finalize the student teaching placement.


Studies in Urban and International Student Teaching
- this seminar is offered every fall and spring semester. Every student who plans to student teach out of state or internationally must participate in this seminar the semester prior to student teaching.


University Supervisor - this person is very similar to a clinical supervisor. The term university supervisor is often used when the individual is associated with a local university and your placement has been made through that university.
