- The SSWA meets only once a month, usually at the beginning of the
month. The meetings last about
one hour.
- You can put as much or as little time as you like into your membership.
Sign-up sheets are passed around for each event and if you don’t think
you have the time, there is no pressure to sign up to help out! Because all of these activities are
dependant upon member involvement the only thing we do ask is that if
you do sign up to help at an event that you stick it out until the end,
or let us know right away if something comes up.

- Currently we are selling tickets for a pancake breakfast on November 1st. This breakfast is an annual event for
the Cedar Valley SERTOMA Club. SERTOMA stands for Service to Mankind,
they are helping us out with our events for this academic year. As a social event, the SSWA will also
be helping to make and serve the pancakes on November 1, at the Broom
Factory in Cedar Falls. It’s not
too late to get involved with this event!! The majority of the proceeds for each
ticket sold is coming back to the SSWA so that we can afford to do more
in the way of operations and events.

- In December we will be hosting a Hunger Banquet. We are still very early in the
planning process so now is the time to get involved with this activity!
- We will also be doing a number of projects for the Christmas Season:
- Salvation Army-Bell Ringing: We will be breaking up into groups of two
or three to ring bells for donations to the Salvation Army.
- We will be helping an orphanage in Mexico sponsored by St. Stephen’s by
getting an ornament from St. Stephen’s and buying gifts for the child
based on their gender, age, and a list of things they need.
- The Elfe Shoppe in Riceville, Iowa.
The Elfe Shoppe is run by a single lady in Riceville. She purchases presents, food and
clothing for roughly 65 families each year. The money she uses is
either from donations or else out-of-pocket. We will be helping her out by holding
a fundraiser sometime in December.
