SIS Update #32
Here is a brief update for you on five items:
- Change made regarding student email addresses
- A reminder on textbook entries
- Feedback requested on textbook entry process
- Update on navigation for Campus Solutions users
- User-identified issues update is available
Change made regarding student email addresses
As of October 4th, Faculty Center and Adviser Center will use UNI email addresses exclusively. This will allow for all communication from the Student Information System to be sent to the student's UNI email address. This will also ensure that the emails addresses are consistent with eLearning. If students wish to receive their emails at a non-UNI address, they can set a forwarding address using these instructions.
A reminder on textbook entries
A reminder that textbook entries in the Schedule of Classes were copied from Spring 2012 to Spring 2013, so please be sure to review and update this information as needed. When entering/updating textbook information in the Schedule of Classes for Spring of 2013, please leave the textbook assignment status as "Pending" until assignments are confirmed. This will ensure that students registering for classes will have accurate information if they choose to order their books early.
If the entries are changed after the status has been indicated as “Completed”, students may end up purchasing incorrect textbooks. If these are purchased from vendors other than University Book and Supply, students encounter difficulty and expense in exchanging them for the correct textbook. A limited number of cases of upset students/parents have been reported related to this issue.
Feedback requested on textbook entry process
At the time of schedule of classes training (when the system was first implemented), the general consensus among department schedulers was to roll forward textbook information along with the other section information from the previous like term to the new term. We have heard from University Book and Supply that some schedulers have indicated to their staff that they would prefer this information not be rolled forward, and that they instead re-enter it from scratch each time they are building a schedule for a new term. This is a system option, so we'd like to hear your feedback directly on this. Please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org and indicate your preference for rolling forward, or not rolling forward, textbook information along with the other section information when the schedule of classes is created for a new term.
Update to navigation for Campus Solutions users
On Monday, October 22nd, users will notice a change to page navigation in Campus Solutions. The "Menu Pagelet" continues to be an option to navigate to pages. If using the "Main Menu drop-down" navigation, users will now click the menu selections rather than hover to navigate to the desired page. The best way to access frequently used pages is to add them to your Favorites! For more navigation tips, click here.
User-identified issues update is available
As issues or problems are identified in SIS, they are recorded in a document on the SIS website. As staff work on resolving those issues, they update the summary to indicate where we are in addressing each issue. You can view the summary, along with updates, here.
