Activity One

Task:

1. For this activity you will be assigned to a group of three.  One member of your group will be the web surfer, the other member will be the recorder, and the last member will be the recorder of information. 

2.  Once you have picked a role, you should begin to search the resources listed fro the answers to the questions below.  You should all work together during the entire process of this activity. 

3.  After answering the questions as a group you need to develop a one page paper about the important aspects of DNA and genetics.  You should base your paper on the questions below along with any other information you feel is important.

What is DNA?
What are chromosomes?
What is a dominant trait?
What is a recessive trait?
When is a dominant trait found?
In humans how many chromosomes do we have?
Who is Gregor Mendel?
Why is he important to genetics?
Where do the physical traits we inherit come from?
What is a gene?
What is a cell?
How do genetic disorders occur?

Conclusion:

After answering the questions and writing the one page paper about the information you have learned from answering the questions you will have a greater understanding of genetics.  This will allow you to understand the other activities you will take part in.
