Genius on the Job

Today you will blast off into space with your Mission Coordinator. Destination: Mars! You will be greeted by the creatures that live there. They have been anticipating your visit and are eager to begin working with you to better understand their own genetics. You will be working with individual citizens of Mars to help solve their genetics mysteries. The citizens of Mars are unique because they are all adults! However, they would like to produce offspring in order to ensure the future of their civilization.

Your Task:

Upon your arrival, you are greeted by five Martian couples, eager to start working with you.
They lead you to the Java Joint where you will begin discussing your work.
The Martians inform you that they volunteered to be an experimental test group to see if science technology on Earth could apply to their planet.
You must start by meeting each couple individually and getting to know them. You will learn their names and physical characteristics, both of which will be important in your genetic research. Read the table below to obtain this information.

In order to figure out the probability of inheritance of the above physical traits, you need to know which traits are dominate and which are recessive. The following table provides this information, along with the letters you need to use to fill out your Punnett Squares. For dominant traits, you may choose to use two capital letters to express the trait or a capital letter and a lowercase letter. (example: BB or Bb)

Fill in the Day 2 part of your Genetics Field Guide used for the Genetics Genius job. (If you have not done that task, click on Field Guide to print a copy.) This is where you will fill in the Punnett Squares with the Martians' traits. Use the two tables above to get information needed to fill in your Punnett Squares and figure out probability. If you have any questions while you are working, feel free to ask your Mission Coordinator, who will be by your side throughout your stay.
