We want
students
to know:
1. Factors involved in the development of a drug dependency a. Tolerance level b. Drug seeking behavior c. Loss of control d. Denial 2. Know the early observable signs of a drug dependency a. Tolerance level b. Drug seeking behavior c. Loss of control d. Denial 3. Know short and long term consequences of drug use a. Physical consequences A. Shortness of breath B. Cirrhosis (liver disease) C. Lung cancer D. Emphysema b. Psychological consequences A. Low self esteem B. Paranoia C. Depression D. Apathy c. Social consequences A. Crime B. Domestic violence C. Loss of friends |
|
We want students to be able to do:
We want the students to be able to use
reasoning to solve real world problems in regard to drugs and their
effects on them, the world, and others. We also want the students
to label the parts of the body that these drugs effect. |
|
Task:
The students are going to be doing a detective
task by looking for clues as to the types of
drugs, what effects the drugs cause, and what happens if drugs are
abused. |

Standards:
Health, Standard 9:The standards were taken from

Understands aspects of substance use and abuse Level III Grade 6-8 2. Know factors involved in the development of a drug dependency and the early, observable signs and symptoms (e.g., tolerance level, drug seeking behavior, loss of control, denial) 3. Knows the short- and long term consequences of the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (e.g., physical consequences such as shortness of breath, cirrhosis, lung cancer, emphysema; psychological consequences such as low self esteem, paranoia, depression, apathy; social consequences such as crime, domestic violence, loss of friends) Math, Standard 3: Uses basic and advanced procedures while performing the process of computation. Level III Grade 6-8 5. Uses proportional reasoning to solve mathematical and real world problems (e.g., involving equivalent fractions, equal ratios, constant rate of change, proportions, percents) |
