Utilize as many resources as you can find! In addition to this web quest, you can use your textbook, resources from your library, the Internet, and virtually anything else you can get you hands on!

  • There is a graphic organizer provided to assist you with your research. KWL Graphic Organizer
  • For the graphic organizer, fill in what you already know about your topic, what you want to know about your topic, and what you learned after researching your topic.

*NOTE*
There are two choices to choose from for this section!

web.sau.edu/studentsuccess/ advising/sequence.htm
These guidelines should be followed when you compose your summary:
  • Give a general description about the social class you have chosen. Include these things:

  •
    • Describe the type of work that a person from your social class does
    • Detail the living conditions that people of your social class live in
    • Include characteristics that someone of your social class might exhibit
    • Talk about how others in society view your person
    • Discuss what type of advantages/disadvantages they might have vs. others in society
    • Outline a typical day/week in the life of the person in the social class you have chosen
  • Check to see that your paper has correct spelling uses proper grammar.
  • Make sure that you word process your summary, using  12 pt. font

3b.  Create a PowerPoint presentation about the working class that you have chosen
computer

This PowerPoint presentation should include basically the same information that would be included if you wrote a summary.  You do not need to give as much detail as you would in a typed summary, but should focus on just main points and maybe some details.  Here are some of the main ideas you should outline (same as stated above:)

On top of just outlining these ideas, be sure to include lots of pictures, images, and even music or sound.  Be creative and have fun with it!

Create a "Day in the Life" Television Show!

thinking
www.chalatlaw.com/ litigation.html

Once you are finished doing your research and writing your two page summary, it is time to start thinking about how you are going to put together your final presentation.

This is how your television show is going to work:

  • Each of you are going to take what you have learned through your research in order to help you actually "become" your person for your presentation.
  • You are going to make up a fictional name for yourself, and you are going to be a person who lives in the early to mid 1800's.  You are going to "live" in the specific social class that you have chosen and researched (inventor, slave, city dweller, or factory worker).  For instance, you could be a slave by the name "Johnny Williams" or a factory worker named "Edith Smithers".  Whatever identity you chose to assume is fine.
  • After you have determined your identity, it is time to assume your role.  You are going to create your own "A Day in the Life..." television show.  Basically, all you are going to do is you are going to be interviewed.  And in doing so, you are going to show your television audience what a day in your life would be like!
  • Below are all things you should think about included when you talk about what a day in your life would be like:
    • what modes of transportation you have
    • what kinds of foods you eat
    • what their typical day consists of
    • what you like to do for fun
    • your views of other classes of people
    • how others treat you
    • your overall feel about society and the economy
    • what your job is like
    • how many hours a week you work
    • what kinds of people you work with
    • whether or not you like your social status
  • Now, to successfully complete your Television Show, you have to take it further than simply what was listed above.  When you do your "interview", you must answer other types of questions.  You might talk about the following:
    • your views of other classes of people
    • how others treat you
    • your overall feel about society and the economy
    • what your job is like
    • how many hours a week you work,
    • what kinds of people you work with
    • and also whether or not you like your social status.
  • Now, these are just suggestions of what you can talk about, so by no means is this all you can discuss.  Basically anything you want to include so that you can tell about your life in relation to your social roll should be included.  Remember, you are talking as if you are your person - living in the 1800's.
  • So, once you have figured out what you are going to talk about, you need to decide who is going to interview you.  Every person in your group should interview one person.  Therefore, everyone in your group is an interviewer once, and everyone in your group gets interviewed once.
  • When you give your interview, remember that you are your person! That means, dress up like them, act like them, talk like them - do whatever you can to be them!  We are looking for creativity!!!
  • Now, remember, you will be giving your presentation in front of the class.  Once you think you are ready to go, talk to one of your UNI student teachers.  They will set up a presentation date for you.  Also, if you have any questions, make sure to ask them!
Before you give your presentation, PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!
