A Day in the Life...
People and Lifestyles of the 19th Century

We want YOU to bring the 1800s to the 20th century.  You are to create a character profile of a person in the mid 1800s era.  Then you will get to "show off" and tell about your life from that time period.  Be creative and have fun!

Using the WebQuest as a resource, the students will develop a character profile of one of the four social classes of their choosing.  Students prepare their story as if they were telling an audience what "A Day in the Life..." of a factory worker, city dweller, slave or inventor of the 1800s would be like.  Students will be working collaboratively as well as independently.  In groups of four, students will create and act out a scene in front of the class.  Each student in the group will take on the role of one of the four people studied in the WebQuest.

This lesson was developed using the mcrel.org standards as a guideline.  We used the 8th grade Central Middle School social studies textbook, textbooks from the University of Northern Iowa's IRTS laboratory, and various internet resources to help gather information in regards to the 1800s era.
