2013 UNI Symposium Panelists

Western Carolina University

Among the first regional comprehensive institutions in the country to adopt the Boyer model across campus, Western Carolina University brings experience and vision as a leader in promoting institutional change that recognizes its faculty’s broad range of scholarly activities. A 2007 article by Inside Higher Ed featured WCU’s adoption of Boyer’s model to replace traditional measures of research, which Lee S. Shulman, former president of the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, called a significant shift. Organizations beyond the university recognize its efforts: In 2009 and 2010, Western Carolina was named to the President’s Higher Educational Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction, the highest level of federal recognition for commitment to service and civic engagement. WCU faculty and administrators will apply their expertise as it pertains to the strategic goals of your institution.
