PRESIDENT ALLEN SEEKS PARENT INPUT ON RECOMMENDATION TO ARM UNIVERSITY POLICE
President Allen is seeking comments on the issue of arming university public safety officers. The vice presidents of business and finance and the public safety directors at the three state universities have submitted recommendations to the university presidents that sworn and certified university police officers be authorized to carry firearms as standard equipment. Arming would be subject to stringent training and firearms recertification requirements.
The report is posted at http://www.vpaf.uni.edu/vpaf/documents/arming_report_73107.pdf. Please refer to pages 7-9 of the report. The presidents have been asked to provide recommendations to the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, by Sept. 10.
Please send your comments and thoughts to: firstname.lastname@example.org by Sept. 5.
