"Leadership for Diversity" workshop

The diversity inclusion workshops offer a positive, highly interactive opportunity to engage with members from across campus. Students, staff and faculty are encouraged to attend a one-day workshop, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, April 11, or from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 15. Lunch and snacks provided. Additional Capstone course option added

The Community and Public Health course was left off the summer schedule, but is available. This course provides students an overview of the public health field. The course is Capstone: Community and Public Health, Lec (2475) meets MTWTh, in June,  from 9:50 a.m. to 12:40 p.m., WRC 204.

Travel and research funds for students

The Intercollegiate Academics Fund (IAF) provides funds to cover research and creative activity expenses for students. Students who have been invited to perform, compete or present their research or work at a conference or intercollegiate event may also apply for travel funds through IAF. Upcoming application deadlines are April 4 and May 2. Funding applications for summer activities must be received by May 2.  For more information visit the IAF website.

Emergency Procedures flier

The UNI Emergency Procedures flier will be posted in mid-April in all UNI classrooms by the Office of the Registrar. All department heads have also received a sample flier from their respective VP or dean. Please post the flier in the appropriate gathering spaces within your department -- such as conference rooms, break rooms, etc. The flier is posted on the safety and health website, under Emergency Procedures Tip Sheet. Please print as many copies as you need to share with your colleagues. Copies don't need to be in color, black and white is acceptable.

High Ground: 11 Wounded Warriors, Climbing Home from War

The College of Education Diversity Committee in collaboration with the UNI Veterans Association (UNIVA) will show the movie, "High Ground: 11 Wounded Warriors, Climbing Home From War," at 6:30 p.m., April 3, in the CME. Following the screening there will be a panel discussion with the UNI VA and Chad Jukes, one of the stars of the film. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

A campus-wide test of the UNI Alert system is scheduled at 10:50 a.m., Thursday, April 4. You are encouraged to review your emergency contact information and make any necessary updates. Faculty, staff and students received an email last week with instructions for updating information. Financial Literacy Month Workshops

During April a series of speakers will discuss personal financial literacy. Each workshop will conclude with a drawing for a $100 scholarship, gift cards and T-shirts. Register here. Topics include: student loans and repayment, value of saving, salary, compensation and benefits. Note: the $100 scholarship is only available to students enrolled at least halftime for the current semester.

The University Book and Supply Untenured Outstanding Teaching Award Reception has been rescheduled to 3:30 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, March 27, in the Great Reading Room, SRL. Evening Violent Incident Defense Strategies training sessions

UNI Police will offer evening Violent Incident Defense Strategies (V.I.D.S.) sessions starting March 27, in the State College Room, MAU. V.I.D.S. training helps individuals increase their decision-making ability and chances of survival during an active shooter or violent incident. Patrons may check out materials and enter the building until 10 minutes to closing time, at which time service desks close and the doors are locked. Meet the Pros

UNI's chapter of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) will host Meet the Pros, an event designed to prepare college students for careers in design, marketing, communications and English at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, March 28, in 002 SAB. These pros use the power of copy, typography, and motion to grow and develop brands. Designed to prepare college students for careers in advertising, Meet the Pros is a networking event and panel discussion where students can ask questions, find advice and learn what it's like to work in the industry.

Earth Week Photo Contest reception

All UNI faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the first annual Earth Week Photo Contest reception at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 26, in the State Room, MAU.  Enjoy appetizers and a short photo presentation from graduate student Ben Hoksch detailing his recent kayak travels on the Mississippi River. The top 20 photos will be displayed in a gallery setting and the top three cash prize winners will be announced.

International Cultural Exchange photo contest

Enjoy taking pictures while traveling abroad? Submit photos to for a chance to win several prizes and have your photo displayed around campus. Photos should be of something that shows your passion for traveling; a favorite monument, a nature scene, an event, etc. Please include a brief description of the photo. Email your photos by March 29 (limit of three photos per person). On April 1, a photo album featuring the submissions will be posted on the UNI Study Abroad Facebook page. People can vote for their favorite photo. The top five "liked" photos will be displayed in Maucker Union for a final vote. The winner will be announced April 19.
