Travel and Research Funds for Students

Students who travel to present or compete at a conference can apply for travel funds through the Intercollegiate Academic Fund. The fund also makes awards to support student research and creative activity. Upcoming application deadlines include Sept. 12 and Oct. 3.

UNI to host acclaimed historian Doris Kearns Goodwin

UNI will host acclaimed historian Doris Kearns Goodwin on Wednesday, Oct. 2, as part of the Joy Cole Corning Leadership Lecture Series. A special Q-and-A session for students is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the GBPAC; her formal lecture is at 7:30 p.m. in the GBPAC. Admission is free; tickets are required. Tickets will be available: Thursday, Sept. 5 for UNI students only; Friday, Sept. 6 for students, faculty and staff; and Monday, Sept. 9 for the general public. Interpreters and translators needed

The Office of International Programs, Cedar Valley community members, government agencies and businesses are in need of interpreters and translators fluent in various languages. International Programs is creating a database of faculty, staff and students who are interested in providing this service. To be included in the database, Complete the form online. Adobe Creative Cloud campus software available

Adobe Creative Cloud Campus Licensing provides students (only in UNI computer labs), faculty and staff with Adobe software. Details are posted on the ITS website. This software is available for installation on all UNI computers. The capability for a work-at-home offering (for faculty and staff) is in the works but not yet available. Contact your IT support staff for installation.

WRC adds hours for Labor Day Weekend

Students will have a cool place to hang out, use a computer lab and enjoy fitness and recreational activities at the WRC this Labor Day Weekend. The WRC will open at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Detailed hours are posted on the Wellness & Recreation Services website.

Lifelong University offers "Where Does my Food Come From?"

A Lifelong University course will cover gardening, the current food supply system, shopping local options and more. The class is from 4:30 to 7 p.m. each Wednesday in September with light suppers included. The fee is $40 and registration is limited. There will be no special vacation loans during Labor Day weekend. Patrons may check out materials and enter the building until 10 minutes to closing time, at which time service desks close and the doors are locked. Web server access change

Beginning Aug. 22, CatID authentication can be used to access personal Web accounts on Sunny, wwwstage and wwwdev servers via SSH or SFTP. Current users will be auto-provisioned for CatID access. Departmental accounts will not change at this time. New users wanting access to the Web servers may fill out a request online. An FAQ is posted online.

C-SPAN bus coming to Waterloo

The C-SPAN bus, a 45-foot interactive multimedia learning center that brings C-SPAN coverage of public affairs to communities, will visit Iowa this week. This is the only C-SPAN bus visit to Iowa in 2013. Tour the bus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at the corner of East 4th and Sycamore streets in downtown Waterloo.

A graduate student information meeting, sponsored by the Graduate College, will take place from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 28, in the Old Central Ballroom, MAU.
