Toys for Tots toy drive

Donate new, unwrapped toys to kids ages 0-14 in Black Hawk County. The National Society of Collegiate Scholars will sponsor a Toys for Tots toy drive Dec. 1 through 8. Boxes will be located outside the Student Involvement Center in Maucker Union and inside the main doors of Rod Library. For more information, contact Ashley Larson.

Holiday pottery sale

Purchase unique holiday gifts from UNI ceramic students at the Holiday Pottery Sale from 3 to 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 6, and from noon to 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, in 126 KAB. Students will use proceeds from the sale to attend the National Council for Education in the Ceramic Arts.

Cards for Kids drive

Donate used greeting cards to St. Jude's Ranch for Children, a part of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, from Nov. 25 through Jan. 15. All types of greeting cards are accepted. Look for drop boxes at: Maucker Union, the WRC, CEEE, Schindler Lobby, Gilchrist Hall and Rod Library.

UNI Interpreters Theatre to hold auditions for 'Wasted'

Auditions for the spring 2014 Interpreters Theatre/Reaching for Higher Ground production of "Wasted" will be at 6 p.m., Dec. 3 and 4, in 040 LNG. "Wasted" is an ensemble e(co)-production that explores and criticizes our "throw-away culture." All students are welcome to audition; scripts will be provided. November issues of Student Health 101 (SH101),  the WRS E-Newsletter and WRS Personal Fitness are now posted online. SH101 is a national publication focusing on college student interests. The WRS newsletters focus on WRS activities and topics of the month.

Watch for snow storage signs

Beginning Monday, Nov. 25, "No Parking" signs will be erected to indicate snow storage areas in the following locations: ROTH on the north end and middle of the lot near the motorcycle parking area, "M" parking at the Jennings Apartments and the north "F" street overflow. Do not park in these areas during snow season. Please be sure bicycles and motorcycles are stored off campus if not used during the winter. For questions, call 273-5374.

A night of poetry with Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie

Poet Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie, who teaches at York College in NYC, will read from her work at 7 p.m., Nov. 19, in 002 SAB. Ekere's work focuses on women, ancestry, connectivity and the healing power of art. Her first book, "Karma's Footsteps," will be available for purchase and signing.

Open forum at UNI on the College Affordability Initiative

An open forum on the Obama administration's college affordability initiative will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15, in Bengtson Auditorium in Russell Hall. It will also be streamed online at live.uni.edu. Those who wish to present comments at the forum must register three days in advance. Call for nominations & save the date

The Diversity Council is accepting nominations for the 2014 Diversity Matters Award. This award is presented annually in recognition of dedication and service to UNI in advancement of its diversity-related goals. Those eligible include faculty, staff, students and community members. Recommendations for the award are made to the president who makes the final selection. Additional information and the nomination form are available online. Deadline for nominations is midnight, Thursday, Dec. 12. Awards will be presented at the Town Hall Meeting on Diversity, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22. A Diversity Fair will precede the event from 1 to 2 p.m. Both events will be at the Old Central Ballroom, MAU.

Walk the labyrinth

Enjoy some quiet time walking the labyrinth from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Central Ballroom, MAU. Labyrinths have been used as a tool for reflection, relaxation, meditation or prayer for many years. This walk is done on a walk-in basis and will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
