Panther Plot Harvest Festival

Travel and Research Funds for Students

UNI to host acclaimed historian Doris Kearns Goodwin

UNI will host acclaimed historian Doris Kearns Goodwin on Wednesday, Oct. 2, as part of the Joy Cole Corning Leadership Lecture Series. A special Q-and-A session for students is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the GBPAC; her formal lecture is at 7:30 p.m. in the GBPAC. Admission is free; tickets are required. Tickets will be available: Thursday, Sept. 5 for UNI students only; Friday, Sept. 6 for students, faculty and staff; and Monday, Sept. 9 for the general public. The Office of International Programs, Cedar Valley community members, government agencies and businesses are in need of interpreters and translators fluent in various languages. Adobe Creative Cloud campus software available

Adobe Creative Cloud Campus Licensing provides students (only in UNI computer labs), faculty and staff with Adobe software. Details are posted on the ITS website. This software is available for installation on all UNI computers. The capability for a work-at-home offering (for faculty and staff) is in the works but not yet available. Contact your IT support staff for installation.

A Lifelong University course will cover gardening, the current food supply system, shopping local options and more. Web server access change

Beginning Aug. 22, CatID authentication can be used to access personal Web accounts on Sunny, wwwstage and wwwdev servers via SSH or SFTP. Current users will be auto-provisioned for CatID access. Departmental accounts will not change at this time. New users wanting access to the Web servers may fill out a request online. An FAQ is posted online.

C-SPAN bus coming to Waterloo

The C-SPAN bus, a 45-foot interactive multimedia learning center that brings C-SPAN coverage of public affairs to communities, will visit Iowa this week. This is the only C-SPAN bus visit to Iowa in 2013. Tour the bus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at the corner of East 4th and Sycamore streets in downtown Waterloo.

Wellness/Recreation Center closed Aug. 3 - 18

The WRC will be closed for annual maintenance and repairs Aug. 3 through 18, reopening Monday, Aug. 19. Health Beat will be closed Aug. 3 through 25, reopening Monday, Aug. 26. The WRC will also be closed Friday, Aug. 23, for annual training of all WRS student employees, reopening on Saturday, Aug. 24 for regular fall hours.  Summer and fall hours are posted online.

Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer coming to UNI

UNI will welcome Doris Kearns Goodwin, a Pulitzer Prize-winning American biographer, to campus Oct. 2 as part of the Joy Cole Corning Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series. Goodwin will meet with UNI students at 4 p.m., Oct. 2, followed by a presentation at 7:30 p.m., in the Great Hall, GBPAC. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Parking news

There are three significant parking changes for the new year.  Effective Aug. 1, the meter rate on campus will increase to 80 cents per hour.  Effective Aug. 24, parking and UNI moving citations will incur a $5 late fee if not paid within 10 days of issuance. This fee also applies to any violations paid via payroll deduction or student billing. The daily rate for permits used for conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. will be $2 for any dates requested beyond Aug. 25. Order parking permits online now to avoid lines in August. For more information, call 273-2710.

Connecting a new water main will require closing West 23rd Street between Campus and Merner Streets Wednesday, July 17 through Wednesday, July 31. Detour signs will be posted.
