Town Hall Meeting on Community Engagement

The inaugural Town Hall Meeting on Community Engagement will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 14, in the Georgian Lounge, COM. Faculty and staff will be given the opportunity to partner with a community leader to offer their expertise on research, program evaluation and problem solving in return for scholarship and teaching opportunities. Students will meet with community leaders and learn how they can partner on service learning projects and community engagement endeavors. RSVP and inquiries to Julianne Gassman.

V-men workshop

This workshop will explore the issue of violence against women and girls from a masculine perspective from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, in the CME. Visiting artist Arthur Gonzalez workshop Feb. 19 & 20

Figurative ceramic sculptor Arthur Gonzalez from California College of the Arts will be a visiting artist in the Department of Art Feb. 19 and 20. He will demonstrate how he makes his artwork from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4:45 p.m., each day in the Ceramics Lab, 126 KAB. He will lecture at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 19, in the Art Auditorium, 111 KAB.

Children's book drive Feb. 16-20

In low-income neighborhoods, the ratio of age-appropriate books is one book per 300 children. To help get books to Cedar Valley children in need, the UNI United Way committee is hosting a children's book drive Monday, Feb. 16, through Friday, Feb. 20. Black In Style Fashion Show

The Black In Style Fashion Show will be at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 27, in the GBPAC. There will be a pre-show at 6:30 p.m. in the lobby with picture taking, interviews and performances on the red carpet. The event is free for UNI students, faculty and staff, and $10.50 for the general public. VIP tickets are $20.50 for the public or $10.50 for students. VIP tickets include first choice of seats in the auditorium and the opportunity to meet the designers and host, Fonzworth Bentley.

A free biometric health screening will be offered to all employees by UNI Employee Well-being from 7 to 8:45 a.m., Friday, March 13, in 007 GIL. Register by Friday, March 6. Those completing a screening will be entered in a drawing for a "Heart Health Kit," composed of a speed jump rope, a UNI water tumbler and a heart-rate monitor.

Active Learning in the Science Classroom: What the research says
