Fall full faculty meeting

The fall full faculty meeting will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Monday, Sept. 16, in Lang Auditorium. Speakers will include Katie Mulholland, president pro-tem of the Iowa Board of Regents, President Ruud and other campus leaders. New faculty and winners of faculty awards will be recognized. All members of the university community are invited. Refreshments will be available at the conclusion of the program.

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and the NCBI Campus Coalition Builders will offer three facilitated reading groups for faculty, staff and students on books that explore issues of diversity and inclusion. Library hours for Labor Day weekend

There will be no special vacation loans during Labor Day weekend. Patrons may check out materials and enter the building until 10 minutes to closing time, at which time service desks close and the doors are locked. Library online resources are available 24/7; if off campus, you will get a prompt to enter your CatID.

UNI Local Food Box Program starts

UNI's Local Food Box program is an opportunity for UNI employees to purchase healthy, local food. Boxes will be delivered between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., every Friday, in GIL 007. Web server access change

Beginning Aug. 22, CatID authentication can be used to access personal Web accounts on Sunny, wwwstage and wwwdev servers via SSH or SFTP. Current users will be auto-provisioned for CatID access. Departmental accounts will not change at this time. New users wanting access to the Web servers may fill out a request online. An FAQ is posted online.

C-SPAN bus coming to Waterloo

The C-SPAN bus, a 45-foot interactive multimedia learning center that brings C-SPAN coverage of public affairs to communities, will visit Iowa this week. This is the only C-SPAN bus visit to Iowa in 2013. Tour the bus from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, at the corner of East 4th and Sycamore streets in downtown Waterloo.

Stolen credentials are currently being used to authorize changes in direct deposit account numbers at a number of universities across the country.  Don't be a victim!  Don't share your CatID username and password via email or provide that information on a website that is not an official UNI site. More information is available on the ITS website.

Diane Sullivan, support services manager in ITS-User Services, will retire after more than 33 years at UNI. A retirement farewell will start at 10 a.m., Monday, Aug. 26, behind the reception area on the ITTC second level.

Special pricing on football season tickets offered

UNI's first home football game is Sept. 7 in the UNI-Dome. Faculty and staff can purchase season tickets for as little as $60 for all six homes games. Also, all UNI employees may use payroll deduction to purchase their seats. For more information, see the football brochure.

Open forum for University Relations director candidates

Three candidates have been chosen for on-campus interviews for the position of director of University Relations (UR). Each will participate in a presentation open to the campus community. Presentations will be from 2 to 3 p.m., Aug. 9; 2 to 3 p.m., Aug. 15; and 11 a.m. to noon, Aug. 16. All presentation will be in the Maucker Union University Room. New UNI Facilities and Administrative Cost Rate for Grants and Contracts

Effective July 1, UNI's federally negotiated facilities and administrative (indirect) cost rate is 33.8 percent of modified total direct costs (MTDC) for on-campus sponsored projects and 13.5 percent of MTDC for off-campus projects. For more information, see UNI Facilities and Administrative Costs.

Wellness/Recreation Center closed Aug. 3 - 18

The WRC will be closed for annual maintenance and repairs Aug. 3 through 18, reopening Monday, Aug. 19. Health Beat will be closed Aug. 3 through 25, reopening Monday, Aug. 26. The WRC will also be closed Friday, Aug. 23, for annual training of all WRS student employees, reopening on Saturday, Aug. 24 for regular fall hours.  Summer and fall hours are posted online.

NEH summer stipends - internal deadline: Sept. 9

UNI may nominate two full-time faculty to apply to the National Endowment for the Humanities' Summer Stipend program, a $6,000 award for two months of full-time research and writing. The internal competition deadline is 5 p.m., Sept. 9.

Authorization for payroll deduction of ID card purchases

Electronic authorization for payroll deduction of purchases charged to your ID card is now available. Currently, employees can swipe their ID card at DOR dining centers and retail operations to charge the purchase and have the charge deducted from their paycheck. Effective Oct. 15, this service will only be available to employees who electronically authorize payroll deduction for purchases in advance. Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer coming to UNI

UNI will welcome Doris Kearns Goodwin, a Pulitzer Prize-winning American biographer, to campus Oct. 2 as part of the Joy Cole Corning Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series. Goodwin will meet with UNI students at 4 p.m., Oct. 2, followed by a presentation at 7:30 p.m., in the Great Hall, GBPAC. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Parking news

There are three significant parking changes for the new year.  Effective Aug. 1, the meter rate on campus will increase to 80 cents per hour.  Effective Aug. 24, parking and UNI moving citations will incur a $5 late fee if not paid within 10 days of issuance. This fee also applies to any violations paid via payroll deduction or student billing. The daily rate for permits used for conferences, workshops, seminars, etc. will be $2 for any dates requested beyond Aug. 25. Order parking permits online now to avoid lines in August. For more information, call 273-2710.

UNI Employee Wellness is partnering with Iowa State University Extension to determine if faculty and staff are interested in the Workplace Local Food Box Program. A food box includes milk, meat, eggs, processed products and produce, featuring products from local growers, creameries and processors. Each week the food box will have different contents, and will be delivered to the workplace. Participants can register and pay online through the food box website.
