UNI Freethinkers and Inquirers host Darwin Week

Darwin Week is a free annual event dedicated to science, reason and critical inquiry. Faculty and keynote speakers will present on skepticism, science, activism and sexuality Feb. 10 through 13 in the CME.

Diversity Inclusion lectures

Award-winning documentary filmmaker Byron Hurt will show two of his films in Lang Auditorium. "Hip-Hop: Beyond Beats and Rhymes," a documentary on gender roles in hip-hop and rap music will be shown at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 11; "Soul Food Junkies," which explores the food and culture of the American South, will show at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12. Harassment Prevention sessions

Attorney Sara Laughlin will present several sessions of Harassment Prevention Training Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 12 and 13. All faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to attend, especially those in supervisory roles. Several sessions are designated for supervisors only. Registration is required.

Personal/baby care items donation drive Jan. 27-31

The UNI United Way committee will collect personal care (shampoo, soap, deoderent, shaving items, etc.) and baby care (diapers, wipes, baby soaps, lotions, etc.) items Jan. 27 through 31 to benefit local nonprofit organizations. Donations can be dropped off at the following locations: COE main lobby, 2nd floor; 5 CBB; 027 GIL; Essentials in MAU; 010 RDC; and the Alumni House. Donations also will be accepted at the UNI men's basketball game on Jan. 29. To arrange for a pick up of donations, call Jess Betts at 273-3851.

Nomination reminder - faculty award deadlines

The nomination deadline for the Distinguished Scholar Award and the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Teaching Award is 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24. Faculty nominated for these awards will be sent instructions for submitting materials. Award guidelines and nomination forms are posted on the Graduate College website.

The Service and Leadership Council is hosting a meal-packaging event on Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Jan. 20, in Maucker Union. Sixth Annual Diversity Town Hall

The 6th Annual Diversity Town Hall will be from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22, in the Commons. A Diversity Fair will precede the event from 1:30 to 2 p.m., and the 2014 Diversity Matters awards will be presented at approximately 4:15 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Regina Dixon-Reeves, the faculty diversity/development specialist at the University of Chicago.
