Payroll self-service direct deposit now available

Employees can now set up, or make changes to, their payroll direct-deposit information using a new self-service feature. For it to be effective on that pay date, faculty and staff should make changes at least five business days prior and students, three business days. A Quick Reference Guide is available under Employee Self Service.  Questions may be directed to Sherri Baldwin, 273-2656 in Payroll.

Smoking cessation resource

UNI Employee Wellness is sharing a tobacco cessation resource for employees available through Quitline Iowa. Quitline Iowa is offering four weeks of free Nicotine Replacement Therapy in the form of patches and gum while supplies last. For more information, call 1-800-784-8669 or email hrs-benefits@uni.edu.

Massage therapy summer pricing

Massage therapy is available through UNI Wellness and Recreation now through Aug. 2. The cost for community: 15 minutes-$17; 30 minutes-$28;  45 minutes-$38; 60 minutes-$50; and 90 minutes-$70. Prices for UNI students, employees, retirees and families: 15 minutes-$15, 30 minutes-$25; 45 minutes-$35; 60 minutes-$45; and 90 minutes-$65. Call the Wellness Resource Lab at 273-6119 to schedule an appointment.

Library hours for Memorial Day weekend

Library hours for Memorial Day weekend are posted online. There will be no special vacation loans over the Memorial Day weekend. Patrons may check out materials and enter the building until 10 minutes to closing time, at which time service desks close and the doors are locked. Library online resources are available 24/7; if off campus, you will get a prompt to enter your CatID.

Volunteers needed during Orientation

Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to help the UNI Parents Association staff the parent resource area during new student orientation in June and July. The fairs take place from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., on Mondays and Thursdays, from June 10 through July 11. If interested, contact Kristin Woods .

UNI-Dome construction project

The tunnel from the WRC to the UNI-Dome floor is shut down for painting and installing new light fixtures. The west-side concourse of the UNI-Dome is being "scrubbed" down to bare cement and re-sealed. Please follow the signs and avoid walking in this area.

Service for UNI faculty & staff traveling on university business

The International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) can assist UNI faculty and staff traveling on university business with securing visas. There is no charge for this service, but travelers will be responsible for fees charged by consulates, shipping costs and agent fees (if needed). ISSO can also assist with planning a safe trip and staying healthy abroad. To learn more, visit the ISSO website or email Ross Schupbach.

ID card charging for non-enrolled student employees

If you employ students who aren't enrolled for summer classes but would like the ability to charge to their university bill, email their name, university ID number and supervisor name to diningtech@uni.edu. Normally only enrolled students are able to charge to their university name. Exceptions are made in the summer.

Gray named director of residence

Glenn Gray has been named assistant vice president and executive director of residence. For the past 12 years Gray has served as director of housing and residence life at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Prior to that, he served for 15 years as assistant director with university housing and dining services at the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Gray will begin work at UNI July 1.

A TIAA-CREF individual consultant will visit UNI May May 8, 9, 22 and 23 to conduct one-on-one counseling sessions. Common questions and topics covered during sessions include: Am I on track for retirement? Can I add more to my retirement plan and how do I start this? Is my current mix of investments appropriate? Enrollment for UNI Child Development Center

The UNI Child Development Center has openings in the 4 and 5 year-old room for fall 2013. This is a full-time program that includes kindergarten readiness skills in social, emotional, cognitive, language and motor development.

Malcolm Price Lab School update

The Board of Regents, State of Iowa approved the razing of approximately 70 percent of the Malcolm Price Laboratory School (MPLS) building during the Dec. 5, 2012 board meeting. Razing has begun and is scheduled to be complete by Aug. 31. For more information regarding MPLS construction, visit the recent update.

Online course development awards - spring 2014

The Office of Continuing and Distance Education is accepting proposals for course development awards for converting an existing course to a fully online format using UNI's eLearning system. Proposals for spring 2014 courses are due June 21. Guidelines and a proposal form are posted online. Awards for full-time UNI faculty and staff include a course development stipend of $1,000 per unit of credit and a $1,000 professional development stipend for attending Quality Matters workshops Aug. 5 and 6. May issues of the Student Health 101 (SH101),  WRS E-Newsletter and the WRS Personal Fitness E-Newsletter are now posted online. SH101 is a national publication focusing on college student interests. The WRS newsletters focus on WRS activities, events and topics of the month.

UNIversitas now published

UNI's journal of research, scholarship and creative activity, "UNIversitas," is now posted online. Contributions include new research material at Rod Library, women leaders of the Rwandan genocide, MOOCs, queer adolescent literature, a digital poem and shared governance at UNI.

University Relations interim director named

President Allen has appointed Kim Brislawn, associate director of University Relations as Interim Executive Director of University Relations, effective May 2, 2013. Kim will lead University Relations until a formal search is completed. She will oversee university communications and marketing efforts to continue to support overall university enrollment goals and the university's strategic plan.

Volunteer at UNI's newly updated Iowa State Fair booth display Aug. 8 through Aug. 18. Volunteers receive a UNI T-shirt and free admission, and are asked to interact with visitors and distribute UNI giveaways. Sign up online.

Long-Term Disability plan updates

Current Long-Term Disability (LTD) coverage has been updated to stay current with national trends. Effective July 1, LTD coverage will be 66 and two-thirds percent of compensation with a maximum monthly benefit of $6,666 for all eligible employees. President Allen appoints Title IX deputies

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally funded education program or activity. All Title IX issues must be reported to UNI's Title IX officer. President Allen recently appointed three Title IX deputies to assist the Title IX officer, Leah Gutknecht. More information is posted on the Title IX website and the policies and procedures site.

Department of Residence office temporary relocation

The Department of Residence offices in Redeker Center will be relocated to the Towers Center East Lounge May 9 through Aug. 9 while construction is completed at Redeker Center. This involves: ID card services, room assignments, dining and housing administration, business office, technology and marketing. The department phone number and email addresses won't change. Fresh Beginnings administration will move to Rialto at Towers Center. Catering operations will continue out of Maucker Union and Commons. Facilities administration will be based in Shull Hall.

Health, dental insurance open enrollment

Current faculty, P&S, academic administrators, institutional officials and merit supervisory staff have until May 29 to enroll in or make changes to their health and dental insurance plans. Review your benefit elections to make sure the coverage is financially beneficial for you. Visit the HRS website to learn more about your options and rate changes for the 2013-2014 benefit year.

ITS faculty workshop summer schedule

12-month pay option

Faculty may be paid for their continuing non-temporary academic year appointment in 10 or 12 equal installments beginning with the July 31 or Aug. 30 payroll respectively. Faculty members who would like to change their salary payments from 10 to 12 months, or vice versa, must complete a Pay Frequency Change form available online in the Forms Repository. The completed form must be received in Payroll, mail code 0008, by May 15. Questions may be directed to Amy Stanbrough or 273-7049.
