Conference on African-American Children and Families

Save the date for the 3rd Annual African American Children and Families Conference sponsored by the UNI College of Education on Feb. 27 and 28. This conference will promote a better understanding of culture, ethnicity, race, socioeconomic status and the needs of African-American children and families. Conference is free to UNI faculty and students (registration is required).

Notice of public hearings at UNI

In accordance with the transparency measures adopted by the Board of Regents (BOR) at its August 2013 meeting, public hearings will be held at each of the Board's five institutions, and the Board Office, prior to each BOR meeting. The public hearing at UNI is scheduled from 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, in the Business and Community Services Building, Room 030.

Intuitive Eating Workshop

The 2014 annual benefits open enrollment period will run from Friday, Oct. 18 through Monday, Nov. 18. During this time you can review and change your benefit elections. Changes will be effective Jan. 1. The open enrollment website will be live on Friday, Oct. 18 with detailed information.

Campus cooling shut-down

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 15, Physical Plant will begin switching campus buildings over to winter operations. Cooling systems will be shut down and winterized over the next two to three weeks. Once the cooling is off, it will not be turned back on until late next spring. If you need more information, call Gary Saak at 273-2622 or Ron Hall at 273-2297.

Author Tracie McMillan to visit UNI

Tracie McMillan, author of "The American Way of Eating: Undercover at Walmart, Applebee's, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table," will give the Reaching for Higher Ground keynote lecture at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, in Lang Auditorium. Diversity grants are awarded by the Diversity Council to UNI projects and events that enhance awareness of and education about issues of diversity at UNI. Anyone enrolled at UNI or working at the institution may apply for up to $1,500 to support diversity-related projects and initiatives. More information and the application are posted online.

Adobe home-use program - students, faculty and staff

Faculty and staff may purchase the entire Adobe Cloud or just Acrobat Pro separately. ITS recommends purchasing the entire Adobe Cloud as Acrobat Pro is included in the Cloud.
 Students only have the option to "subscribe" to the Adobe Cloud software for a recurring monthly charge.
 University Book & Supply is an authorized reseller for Adobe software for personal use. A valid UNI ID card is required for purchase.

UNI Career Services has weekly outreach hours at three locations on campus this fall. Students can stop by with questions about resumes, interviewing, Career Services events and any other career-related questions. Outreach locations, days and times are: Maucker Union, Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and noon to 2 p.m., Fridays; Rod Library, Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to noon; and Schindler Lobby, Wednesdays, 9 to 11 a.m.
