7 Habits Cedar Valley

The Greater Cedar Valley Alliance and Chamber  will sponsor a two-day workshop in January using Steven Covey's "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" as the foundation for leadership development. UNI's Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning will help subsidize registration costs for up to 10 faculty who are currently serving in leadership positions on campus; first come, first served. Nomination deadlines for faculty awards

The nomination deadline for the Distinguished Scholar Award and the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Teaching Award is 5 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24. Faculty nominated for these awards will be sent instructions for submitting materials. Award guidelines and nomination forms are posted on the Graduate College website.

Library hours for finals week

Library hours for Dec. 11 through 17 are extended hours. Patrons may check out materials and enter the building until 10 minutes to closing time, at which time service desks close and the doors are locked. Library online resources are available 24/7.

Early processing of student timecards for Dec. 23 payday

Dec. 14 is the cutoff date for the Dec. 23 biweekly payday. Because of the Christmas holiday, timecards will be processed early and must be approved by 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17 to be included in the Dec. 23 paycheck.

2014 renewals of cell phone & data access allowances

The Cell Phone and Data Access Policy requires employees receiving cell phone and data access allowances to have the authorization reviewed and approved annually. Visit the Office of Business Operations (OBO) website for links to the policy, form, FAQs and other information. Authorizations must be received by Friday, Jan. 10 to receive the allowance on the January payroll.

Third Annual Conference on African American Children and Families

 The Third Annual Conference on African American Children and Families will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 28, in the SEC. The pre-conference and conference are free for UNI undergraduate students and faculty. Course credits are available. Library feasibility study open house

On Tuesday, Dec. 10, OPN Architects will unveil conceptual drawings that outline a 10-year vision for potential space changes to the Rod Library. This open house will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on the second floor behind the Reference Desk; refreshments will be served.

The December issues of Student Health 101 (SH101), the WRS E-Newsletter and the WRS Personal Fitness newsletter are now posted online. SH101 is a national publication focusing on college student interests. The WRS newsletters focus on WRS activities and topics of the month.

Affordable Care Act forum

Learn what the Affordable Care Act (ACA) means to you during an educational forum at 3 and 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10, in Ballroom C, MAU. Health and Human Services regional director Stephene Moore will present information on the ACA and how to navigate the health insurance marketplace. A Q&A will follow. These forums are of particular interest to people who currently don't have or may need health insurance.

Diversity Matters award nominations due Dec. 12

The Diversity Matters Award is presented annually in recognition of dedication and service to UNI in advancement of its diversity-related goals. Those eligible include faculty, staff, students and community members. Recommendations for the award are made to the president who makes the final selection. Additional information and the nomination form are available online. Deadline for nominations is midnight, Thursday, Dec. 12. Awards will be presented at the Town Hall Meeting on Diversity, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22. A Diversity Fair will precede the event from 1 to 2 p.m. Both events will be at the Old Central Ballroom, MAU.

Open house for new spaces in Maucker Union

An open house to celebrate the completion of the Maucker Union plaza-level renovation project will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10. Features include the renovated spaces of the Student Involvement Center and the offices of International Programs and International Students & Scholars, as well as the additions of the new LGBT* Center and the Military and Veteran Student Services Center.
