Watch for snow storage signs

Beginning Monday, Nov. 25, "No Parking" signs will be erected to indicate snow storage areas in the following locations: ROTH on the north end and middle of the lot near the motorcycle parking area, "M" parking at the Jennings Apartments and the north "F" street overflow. Do not park in these areas during snow season. Please be sure bicycles and motorcycles are stored off campus if not used during the winter. For questions, call 273-5374.

A night of poetry with Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie

Poet Mariahadessa Ekere Tallie, who teaches at York College in NYC, will read from her work at 7 p.m., Nov. 19, in 002 SAB. Ekere's work focuses on women, ancestry, connectivity and the healing power of art. Her first book, "Karma's Footsteps," will be available for purchase and signing.

The UNI American Marketing Association has partnered with the College of Business Administration to develop an advertising competition for all UNI students. Open forum at UNI on the College Affordability Initiative

An open forum on the Obama administration's college affordability initiative will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Nov. 15, in Bengtson Auditorium in Russell Hall. It will also be streamed online at live.uni.edu. Those who wish to present comments at the forum must register three days in advance. Register by email at collegefeedback@ed.gov with the subject "Open Forum Registration."

Biometric health screening

UNI Employee Wellness will offer a free Biometric Health Screening to all employees on Friday, Nov. 22 from 7 to 8:45 a.m., in 007 GIL. This screening determines your overall health and assesses your risk for medical conditions, and it's a proven way to save on future health care expenses. Call for nominations & save the date

The Diversity Council is accepting nominations for the 2014 Diversity Matters Award. This award is presented annually in recognition of dedication and service to UNI in advancement of its diversity-related goals. Those eligible include faculty, staff, students and community members. Recommendations for the award are made to the president who makes the final selection. Additional information and the nomination form are available online. Deadline for nominations is midnight, Thursday, Dec. 12. Awards will be presented at the Town Hall Meeting on Diversity, from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22. A Diversity Fair will precede the event from 1 to 2 p.m. Both events will be at the Old Central Ballroom, MAU.

Online Course Development Awards - summer/fall 2014

The Office of Continuing and Distance Education is accepting proposals for course development awards for faculty interested in converting an existing course to a fully online format using UNI's eLearning system. $5,000 available for Community Engagement Fellowship

A maximum of $5,000 is available for faculty to apply for a Community Engagement Fellowship. Complete the application and submit to the president's office by Dec. 2. Funds will be disbursed in December for a spring 2014 project to a faculty member working with a nonprofit organization to meet a community need through teaching and/or scholarship. All faculty are eligible to apply.

Walk the labyrinth

Enjoy some quiet time walking the labyrinth from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Central Ballroom, MAU. Labyrinths have been used as a tool for reflection, relaxation, meditation or prayer for many years. This walk is done on a walk-in basis and will take approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

Polar Bare Run, Walk and Roll

The Polar Bare Run, Walk and Roll will cover a mile-long course beginning at the UNI Alumni House at 9 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12. There is a $5 registration fee. Participants are asked to bring used articles of clothing. Each article will enter you in a drawing for prizes. Register online.

Angela Davis, civil and women's rights icon, will lecture on "Finding Your Way: Organizing for Social Change and Human Rights" at 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 7, at the GBPAC. Print Services paper liquidation sale - charge & carry

A paper liquidation sale will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1, at the former print services location (corner of Hudson and West 31st street). Paper reams will be for sale ranging from $2 to $3. Other products will be priced as marked. Bring an inter-departmental requisition form with a department head signature and an account number. The Faculty & Staff International Travel Safety Policy and Student International Travel Safety Policy have been posted on the UNI Policies site for review by faculty, staff and students. They will be available for review until Nov. 15.

Leslie Prideaux named director of alumni relations

Leslie Prideaux has been named director of alumni relations. Prideaux is currently assistant director of programs for the University of Iowa Alumni Association. She will serve as president of the UNI Alumni Association, provide strategic direction of alumni association activities, manage university programs and services for alumni and will direct the development of strategies and messages for alumni communications. She will assume her duties on Nov. 18.
