Legislative forum at UNI

There will be a legislative forum hosted by the Northern Iowa Student Government from 2 to 3:15 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28, in Ballroom A, MAU. Local legislators will be in attendance to respond to questions from NISG, as well as questions from the audience in an open forum setting.

UNI Make A Difference Day 2013

Volunteers will participate in various service projects for ASPIRE Therapeutic Riding Program and the Black Hawk County Conservation at local county parks(transportation provided) from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26. President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

UNI will apply again this year for the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service in Washington, D.C. UNI has been awarded the distinction of "Honor Roll Member" the past five years. Faculty and staff are asked to complete the community service projects inventory by Friday, Nov. 8. Violent Incident Defense Strategies V.I.D.S.

UNI Police are hosting multiple day and evening V.I.D.S. training sessions this semester.  V.I.D.S. training is designed to help individuals increase their decision-making ability and chances of survival during an active shooter or violent incident. The 2014 annual benefits open enrollment period will run from Friday, Oct. 18 through Monday, Nov. 18. During this time you can review and change your benefit elections. Changes will be effective Jan. 1. The open enrollment website will be live on Friday, Oct. 18 with detailed information.

Campus cooling shut-down

Starting Tuesday, Oct. 15, Physical Plant will begin switching campus buildings over to winter operations. Cooling systems will be shut down and winterized over the next two to three weeks. Author Tracie McMillan to visit UNI

Tracie McMillan, author of "The American Way of Eating: Undercover at Walmart, Applebee's, Farm Fields and the Dinner Table," will give the Reaching for Higher Ground keynote lecture at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, in Lang Auditorium. Diversity grants are awarded by the Diversity Council to UNI projects and events that enhance awareness of and education about issues of diversity at UNI. Anyone enrolled at UNI or working at the institution may apply for up to $1,500 to support diversity-related projects and initiatives. More information and the application are posted online.

Adobe home-use program - students, faculty and staff

Faculty and staff may purchase the entire Adobe Cloud or just Acrobat Pro separately. ITS recommends purchasing the entire Adobe Cloud as Acrobat Pro is included in the Cloud. Students only have the option to "subscribe" to the Adobe Cloud software for a recurring monthly charge. University Book & Supply is an authorized reseller for Adobe software for personal use. A valid UNI ID card is required for purchase.

Authorization for payroll deduction of ID card purchases

Electronic authorization for payroll deduction of purchases at campus restaurants and convenience stores charged to your ID card will soon be required. Currently, employees can swipe their ID card to have these charges deducted from their paycheck. Effective Oct. 15, this service will only be available to employees who have made the one-time election to electronically authorize payroll deduction for these purchases. To authorize, go to e-Business UNI Employee Self Service and scroll down to UNI ID Payroll Deduct Authorization. Global Connections Scholar award

The Culture & Intensive English Program (CIEP) has a scholarship opportunity to individuals who are recommended by current UNI full-time employees. This scholarship will provide up to 100 percent CIEP tuition for the spring 2014 eight-week session. Recipients will be responsible for all other fees.
