Falafel Festival

Falafel, Middle Eastern street food, is the national food of both Israel and Palestine. UNI faculty, staff, students and the community are invited to this festival from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 23, on the lawn at College and West 23rd streets. Rain location is Maucker Union.

Time to register for fall fitness classes

Online registration for fall fitness classes starts Thursday, Aug. 20. New classes include: Kick, Kettle & Core, Cardio HIIT Xpress, Friday After Class (FAC), Wild Card Wednesday and more. Pay one fee and attend any class all day, everyday with the new Fit Pass.

Never give away passwords to anyone by email or phone. There has been an increase in phishing-related emails being sent to UNI addresses. If you ever doubt the legitimacy of an email or phone call regarding your account, contact the Computer Consulting Center at 273-5555 or email its-consult@uni.edu. If you've given your password to anyone, change it immediately.

Nate Ruess coming to Gallagher Bluedorn Oct. 7

College Hill Farmers Market

Farewell reception for Lyn Redington

A reception honoring director of residence life Lyn Redington will be from 4 to 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 17, in the CME. A brief program will start at 4:30 p.m. Redington is leaving UNI to start her new position as assistant vice president and dean of students at the University of Iowa.

New recycling options at UNI

Beginning fall semester, all academic buildings will have new single-stream recycling units in public areas. Look for units that have a blue recycling container attached to a black trash container. All clean cardboard, plastic, metal and paper can be placed in the blue containers without sorting. Trash and glass will go in the side marked for trash.

Panther Plot sweet corn

Sweet corn is available from the Panther Plot student garden, south of the BRC from 3 to 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 4, and from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Aug. 5, while supplies last. Stop by the garden any time you see students working to check on availability or take a tour.

Welcome international students to UNI through friendship

The CIEP International Friendship Program is a non-residential host family program. International students do not live with their new American friends, but meet with their host family at their convenience and participate in activities such as evening or weekend meals, family or community sports and holiday celebrations. Building access updates

Several updates have been made to the Building Access Procedures and Guidelines found on the Physical Plant's website. Updates include a justification field for key requests, limiting the length of time students may be issued keys (maximum is one academic year), explanation of required key audits, and key log requirements for departmental keys. Time to order 2015-2016 parking permits

Parking permits can be ordered online now through 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 15. This is also the deadline for permanent faculty and staff to choose the pre-tax monthly payroll-deduction payment option for the permit fee. You can purchase both a regular vehicle permit and a motorcycle permit. This option applies to the G, Gm, A and B permits. If you have questions, call 273-2710.

ADA 25th anniversary celebration walk

UNI Student Disability Services and Exceptional Persons, Inc. will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, at the fountain outside of Maucker Union. Keynote speakers provost Jim Wohlpart and Tyler Greene will kick off a one-mile walk around campus. In the event of rain, the walk will relocate to the track in the WRC.

Compost training scheduled in August

The IWRC will host Food Waste Compost Training: On the Farm and in Your Community from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 20, at the CEEE. This one-day workshop will cover compost management. Registration is $20.

Hillside-Jennings apartments office moving to ROTH

Effective July 28, the Hillside-Jennings apartment office is moving from its current location at 3900 Jennings Drive to ROTH complex around the corner at 3800 Jennings Drive. Hillside-Jennings residents and guests can park in the 30-minute parking stalls outside the main entrance to ROTH. Upon entering ROTH, the apartment office will be up the stairs straight ahead, Room 121. The office phone will remain the same, 273-6232. Office hours are posted online.

Extended dining hours for RAGBRAI

Piazza and Biscotti's will have extended hours on Wednesday, July 22 and Thursday, July 23 to support RAGBRAI. Hours are posted on the summer dining hours page. Dinner at Piazza on Wednesday evening will feature an all-you-can-eat pasta and salad bar.

20+ State Fair volunteers still needed

Volunteers are still needed for the UNI exhibit at the Iowa State Fair. Sign up to volunteer for a four-hour shift between Thursday, Aug. 13 and Sunday, Aug. 23. Volunteers receive a UNI T-shirt and free admission ticket, and are asked to interact with interested fairgoers, prospective and current students, families and alumni, in addition to handing out UNI giveaways. RAGBRAI Rod Library exhibits

There are three RAGBRAI displays on exhibit at the Rod Library. The main floor exhibit case showcases RAGBRAI and bicycling memorabilia belonging to a library staff member. The Special Collections/University Archives display case includes pictures from RAGBRAI stops at UNI. The Youth Collection display highlights youth books on cycling.

Redeker Drive to close for repairs

Redeker Drive between Ohio and Campus streets will be closed for pavement repairs Friday, July 24 through Friday, Aug. 7. Please use Campus Street for access to the Gilchrist A lot. Access to the GBPAC visitor lot will be via Ohio Street.

G parking permit lottery for 2015-16

The deadline to submit names for the 24 "G" parking spaces in the furthest north row of the Gilchrist Lot and the 31 spaces in the Multimodal Transportation Center is 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 24. Make requests online or in writing to Public Safety. Written requests should include name, campus address and lot of interest. Any unsold G & Gm permits at the beginning of the fall semester may be sold to enrolled students. The yearly G permit fee is $406.20; the Gm permit is $417.60. Permanent employees interested in choosing the 12-month pre-tax payroll deduction payment option must be available between July 30 and Aug. 14 to receive notification of their status and purchase the permit. The MyUNI App has been updated on both the Google Play store and the iTunes Store. Some of the new features are a link for the traditions app, a first-year experience button and a button for wellness resources.

Reaching for Higher Ground accepting mini-grant applications

The Reaching for Higher Ground (RHG) Committee is seeking applications for mini-grant awards of up to $1,000, which are due Saturday, Aug. 1. Visit the RHG website to learn more about RHG and the 2015-16 theme: And Justice for All. With this round of funding, RHG is placing a greater emphasis on funding projects that include interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement. West 27th Street is closed temporarily

The City of Cedar Falls has begun reconstruction work on West 27th Street between Hudson Road and Panther Parkway. This will require a full road closure which will be in effect for two to three days, depending on the weather.

Internet service outage

Information Technology Services will perform border network maintenance between 6 and 7 a.m., Friday, July 3. Connectivity between campus and the Internet will be unavailable during that time. Accessing on-campus resources, such as remote desktop to your office workstation, will not be possible off campus, and accessing off-campus resources, such as browsing non-UNI websites, will not be possible on campus. Maintenance will not directly impact the data center networks, but data center connectivity to the Internet will also be unavailable.

Cable TV changes coming June 30

The UNI cable TV channel lineup will change to digital only on Tuesday, June 30. This will require all TVs to have a digital tuner. Most flat screens purchased since 2007 have digital tuners. For TVs that don't support digital channels, an external tuner can be added for about $50 per display. When the change takes place, all televisions will need to be rescanned to receive the channels, following the same procedure when setting up a new television. If you have any questions, email Denny Reimer or call 273-6285.
