Diversity Council offers mini grants

Diversity grants are awarded by the Diversity Council to UNI projects and events that enhance awareness of, and education about, issues of diversity at UNI. Anyone enrolled at UNI or working at the institution may apply for up to $1,500 to support diversity-related projects and initiatives. More information and the application are posted on the diversity website

Mikkelsen informal retirement gathering

Morris Mikkelsen, associate vice president for Facilities Planning, will retire on Sept. 30 after more than 30 years of service to the university. An informal gathering will recognize him from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at the Commons Plaza. Rain location is the Great Reading Room, SRL. Remarks will begin at 4 p.m.

UNI to host Rep. Murphy for education forum

UNI will host Rep. Pat Murphy for a Congressional Candidate Education Forum at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17, in the University Room, MAU. Murphy will present his education platform and priorities for early childhood through the postsecondary years, followed by questions from a panel of UNI faculty and students.

Panther Pacer Homecoming 5K

Kick off Homecoming by running a 5K race. The race will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. The registration fee is $15 if you sign up online and $20 if you sign up the day of the race.

Biometric health screening

A free biometric health screening is being offered to all employees from 7 to 8:45 a.m., Friday, Sept. 26, in 007 GIL. This screening determines overall health and assesses risk for medical conditions. Access the registration form and view the FAQs online. All who attend will be entered to win a Nike+ SportBand. Visiting artist ceramics workshop Sept. 16 & 17

Visiting artist Erin Furimsky will demonstrate ceramics from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16, in 126 KAB. She will lecture about her artwork at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Art Auditorium. A hands-on decal workshop will be from 9:30 a.m. to noon and from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 17, in 126 KAB. Bring a piece of glazed work or buy a commercial glazed tile for the decal workshop.

Participants needed for research study on stuttering

Student researchers in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders are seeking adults who stutter to participate in a research study. Participants will learn to control a computer game environment by producing voice. For more information, contact Carlin Hageman. Live Like a Student sessions explore the concepts of personal budgeting, credit and credit cards, student loans, financial aid and identity protection. The annual meeting of UNI faculty will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Monday, Sept. 15, in Ballrooms A&B, MAU. President Ruud, interim provost Licari and faculty leaders will give remarks, and last year's faculty award winners will be recognized. A reception for new faculty members will precede the meeting from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
