Mapping the course of geology

Since 2008, the University of Northern Iowa has secured $88,490 in federal funding from the University Geologic Mapping Component (EDMAP), which is part of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program (NCGMP). This funding will continue through July 2011.

A modern-day Forrest Gump

In July, University of Northern Iowa senior physical education major Zach Liddle went out for a run in Sioux City, Iowa. In October, he ended up in Dubuque – 370 miles across the state.

Beginning his running career during his junior year of high school when his school started its cross country program, Liddle joined and immediately enjoyed the sport. His running continued in college when he joined UNI’s Panther Pacers Running Club, a group of runners who get together during the week to run throughout campus.

Re-accreditation team visits UNI

Not just a teacher

The University of Northern Iowa's biannual Teacher Education Induction Convocation honored 394 students who have satisfied requirements to be officially admitted into the UNI Teacher Education program.

"The convocation develops a sense of pride among teacher education majors," said Rip Marston, professor of physical education and leisure services, "because they know they have earned the right to be fully admitted into the Teacher Education program and are unified as future teachers."

Rock solid experience

Choosing a path up a wall of limestone can be tricky. What appear to be deep pockets, a good place for a solid grip can be deceiving. Instead, the hand will slip on polished stone, too slick for a hold. Meanwhile, reaching out of sight will land a firm, stable handhold that allows a climber to leverage her body to solid footing.

There's no crying at Homecoming! ...Or is there?

The University of Northern Iowa jumped into its 89th Homecoming celebration, themed "Let the Good Times Roar," with some long-lasting university traditions.

Officially kicking off Homecoming week with the Panther Pride Cry event on Wednesday, Oct. 20, UNI's spirit squads, pep band, faculty, staff and students showed their passion for purple with song and dance.
