On Memorial Day, we honor all our veterans, including those who are alumni of the University of Northern Iowa. The photo to the right is of the flag flying over the Hibbs Memorial, dedicated in 2000 to Lieutenant Robert J. Hibbs, Class of 1964, who received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Viet Nam. The UNI Reserve Officers Training Corps raised $17,000 in just five weeks to build the memorial, which includes a flagpole and plaque. The memorial stands outside the West Gym, home of the UNI ROTC Panther Battalion.
G.I. Jobs magazine recognizes UNI as "Military Friendly". Only 15 percent of colleges and universities have received that designation. Veterans interested in going to college can find information on the UNI Admissions Military/Veterans page.
