The following are steps for how to determine your operating system type. This is useful information in the event you call the helpdesk or require assistance from an RCC, as they will want to know what type of operating system they are troubleshooting.

Make sure that you have your Windows CD, your Windows Product key (usually located with the disk package or on the computer case), any driver disks that came with your computer or other hardware you installed, and the disks for any programs you want re-installed. If you do not have a Windows CD, you may purchase one at UNI, or you may need to contact your system manufacturer.

Windows 8:

1. Open the wireless menu by selecting the logo in the right hand corner.

2. Select the network and right click to bring up more options. Select Forget this network.


 


Windows 7 & Vista:

1. Open the Start Menu and search for manage wireless networks

Note: Your computer may contain a wireless network card as well as a wired network card, or contain multiple network cards. When looking for the computer's MAC address, be sure to find the MAC address associated with the network card you wish to use. If you are connecting through Wi-Fi, you must use the MAC address associated with the wireless network card, and users plugged in through ethernet cable require their wired MAC address.

How to enable your devices's wireless card

You can enable your wireless through the 3 options listed below:

1. Using the switches or buttons located on exterior of laptop

* Laptops will usually have a switch or button located on the side or front of the laptop to disable or enable wireless

2. Using Function Keys

* These are brand-specific for laptops:
o Dell: fn + f2
o Lenovo: fn + f5
o Asus: fn + f2

Why disable your wireless adapter?

1. Prevents wireless interference with other devices

2. Improves battery life when a wireless connection is not needed

How to disable your device's wireless card

You can disable your wireless through the 3 options listed below:

If your computer is registered (view your registrations here) and you see the ResNet registration page when opening your web browser, you may need to clear the browser cache. To do so, read the following instructions that correspond to your web browser.

Firefox\Internet Explorer\Chrome\Safari

Press Ctrl (⌘ on Mac) + Shift + Delete

Opera

1. Go to the O menu.

2. In the Settings option, select Delete Private Data.
