The following are steps for how to determine your operating system type. This is useful information in the event you call the helpdesk or require assistance from an RCC, as they will want to know what type of operating system they are troubleshooting.

Note: Make sure you have your OS X CD, your product key--which is usually located with the disk package--, any driver disks or other hardware that came with your computer, and the disks for any programs you want re-installed. If you do not have an OS X CD, you may purchase one from Apple.

How To Reformat

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install Disc and double-click the Install Mac OS X icon.

Note: Your computer may contain a wireless network card as well as a wired network card, or contain multiple network cards. When looking for the computer's MAC address, be sure to find the MAC address associated with the network card you wish to use. If you are connecting through Wi-Fi, you must use the MAC address associated with the wireless network card, and users plugged in through ethernet cable require their wired MAC address.

If your computer is registered (view your registrations here) and you see the ResNet registration page when opening your web browser, you may need to clear the browser cache. To do so, read the following instructions that correspond to your web browser.
