Requirements to Connect

These are the minimum system requirements to access ResNet's network.
 
Wireless
Wireless protocol support:

  • Wireless network adapter with support for 802.11 a, g, or n

Encryption:

  • WPA-Enterprise or WPA2-Enterprise encryption. A list of known devices that do not support WPA2-Enterprise encryption can be found on the Incompatible Wireless Devices page.
  • 802.1x authentication
General
  • You must have a currently supported operating system with all critical updates installed. You can visit the Unsupported Operating Systems page to see whether your OS is compatible or not. 
  • Additionally, to access the wireless network you must have a valid CatID username and password.

 
Wired

  • A Wired network card and network cable. If your computer does not have a network card (or Ethernet card), you will need to purchase one online, or they can be found in most electronics departments. You will also need a network cable (also called an Ethernet cable). You may provide your own cable, or purchase one in your residence hall office, the Redeker Center, or the University Apartments office. 20' purple cables cost $10 and 40' gold cables cost $15.
  • You must have a currently supported operating system with all critical updates installed. You can visit the Unsupported Operating Systems page to see whether your OS is compatible or not.
  • You must also have a valid CatID username and password to access the wired network.
