Power outages or a period of inactivity can cause a computer to display the ResNet registration screen even though the computer is already registered. The instructions below should allow you to successfully restore Internet access.

If you continue to have problems after following these instructions, try shutting down the computer, plugging your network cable into the other orange data jack, and then turn your computer back on. If you are still having difficulties after this, please call the ResNet helpdesk at (319) 273-RSNT ((319) 273-7768).

Windows Vista/7/8

  1. Click on Start
  2. On Start Search, type in "command"
  3. Right click and choose Run as administrator
  4. If prompted, choose Continue
  5. Type "ipconfig /release" and press Enter
  6. Type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter

Windows XP

  1. Click on Start
  2. Click on Run
  3. Type "cmd" and click on OK
  4. Type "ipconfig /release" and press Enter
  5. Type "ipconfig /renew" and press Enter

Macintosh OS X 10.5 and Higher

  1. Click on the Apple menu
  2. Click on System Preferences
  3. Click on the Network icon
  4. Make sure either Airport or Ethernet (depending on which you working with) is selected and click Advanced
  5. Click on the TCP/IP tab
  6. Click on the Renew DHCP button
