Determine Your Operating System
The following are steps for how to determine your operating system type. This is useful information in the event you call the helpdesk or require assistance from an RCC, as they will want to know what type of operating system they are troubleshooting.
Windows 8
- Open Control Panel.

Click on System and Security and click on System. Your version of Windows and Service Pack should be listed in the window that pops up, as shown below.

Windows 7 / Vista (and Newer)
- In the Start menu right-click on Computer and choose Properties.
- The following window should appear. Your version of Windows and Service Pack should be listed in the window that pops up, as shown below.
Windows XP (and Older)
- Right-click on My Computer and choose Properties. My Computer can also be found in the Start menu and in Windows Vista and Windows 7 it will be titled Computer.
- The following window should appear. Your version of Windows and Service Pack should be listed in the window that pops up.

Macintosh
- From the Apple menu, select About This Mac.
- The following window should appear. Your operating system is listed under the Apple logo, as well as the version of your operating system.
