On this page, you will find instructions on connecting a Chromebook to UNI's wireless network, WiFi-UNI.
If you are attempting to connect your Chromebook for the first time on UNI's campus, log onto your Chromebook as a "Guest" rather than using your UNI credentials (CatID and passphrase) as it will smooth the process. If you are not attempting to connect for the first time, follow the instructions all the same.

Step One
Click on the wireless icon located on the menu bar in the bottom right corner of the screen. A menu will pop up with networks that are available. Uncheck the "Automatically Connect" setting on all networks except WiFi-UNI and then make WiFi-UNI a preferred network.

Step Two
Select WiFi-UNI to connect and enter the following settings and credentials:

  • SSID: WiFi-UNI
  • EAP Method: PEAP
  • Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
  • Server CA Certificate: Default
  • User Certificate: None installed
  • Identity: <Your CatID Username>
  • Password: <Your CatID Passphrase>
  • Anonymous identify: <leave blank>
  • Click "Save your identity and password" and then select "Connect"

Step Three
Connect to WiFi-UNI. You may receive errors saying "DHCP Lookup Failure," but this actually demonstrates that your Chromebook is attempting to connect to this network. This process sometimes take very little time but more often it can take up to 20 minutes. Once the Chromebook realizes that the credentials and configuration are correct, your credentials will be saved and you should be successfully connected to WiFi-UNI.

After the initial successful connection, later connections to WiFi-UNI will be much easier.
