Where did you work previously? I have worked at UNI since 1977 and the last 30+ years were in the Admissions Office. Most of that time was spent as a transfer credit Record Analyst. I was asked to be on the new SIS implementation team as the Campus Community, Admissions, and Transfer Credit Lead.
What are you looking forward to in your new position with the Registrar’s Office? I am very excited to work with students again and to develop a working relationship with the Grad Coordinators and Grad College. I am very much a “people person.” I have always enjoyed working with curriculum, so being able to return to serving people AND studying curriculum is a delightful combination!
What are some hobbies you enjoy doing? I have volunteered on- and off-stage at the Cedar Falls Community Theatre for over 20 years. I love every aspect of a show’s production. I also enjoy Zumba dancing three times a week!
What is something interesting or extraordinary about yourself? Last November I had the extraordinary opportunity to travel to Tanzania with three friends. A friend of mine has started a safari business with a partner in Tanzania and we were her first scheduled trip. Besides an AMAZING safari through the Ngoro Ngoro Crater and the Serengeti, we visited Bashay Primary School and Shalom Orphanage, both in Arusha, Tanzania. This kind of visit is truly life-changing. My friends have also started a non-for-profit organization called P.O.A. (Positive Outlook Association) for which I serve on the Board of Directors. We have already been able to provide clean drinking and hand-washing water for the school of over 800 students. Our future desires are to build teacher housing for the school and to train the directors of the orphanage to be more self-sufficient at the same time providing some essential needs.
We have also established some connections between Bashay & UNI and the first scheduled trip will be over Spring Break!
You can tell I’m pretty passionate about this, so if you’d like more details I’d be happy to share!
