News & Announcements01/21/2005 - Web Class Lists and Grade Sheets Now Available on MyUNIverseWeb-based class lists and grade sheets are now available to faculty through MyUNIverse, http://myuniverse.uni.edu, from the "View/Print Class Lists" link in the "Advising and Instruction" section. The following is some additional information about this new service. Authorization LevelsFaculty are automatically authorized to access class lists of courses that they are an official instructor of record for as reported to the Office of the Registrar by the academic department.Department or college level access to class list information is available to individuals working in department or college offices upon request. Contact Patti Rust at patti.rust@uni.edu to request access. Please include the name, department, and title of individuals requesting access, in order to expedite your request. FormatWeb class lists are available in both PDF and Excel format, for flexibility in printing and/or downloading.Types of Class List Information Available on MyUNIverseThe types of class list information available through the web mirror the current paper lists for the most part, with a few enhancements. Enhancements include the addition of student e-mail addresses hotlinked within the web class lists, the availability of a current, up to date class list throughout the semester, and the availability of a cumulative registration changes list.Initial Class Lists The official initial class lists will be available on the web after systems processing completes the last working night prior to classes beginning. Any time after that night's processing is completed (typically a Friday evening prior to classes beginning on Monday), it is possible for faculty to access their own official initial class lists prior to classes beginning, as an alternative to waiting for printed class lists from the Registrar’s Office. Current Class Lists Current class lists will be available for a given semester after advance registration for the semester begins through the end of the semester. The current class list is updated on a nightly basis from the beginning of advance registration through the start of the semester. Once the semester begins, updates occur on a weekly basis in conjunction with the Wednesday evening updates of registration changes. Faculty may use the current class lists to get a preliminary picture of the enrollment in their courses prior to the official initial class list being available. Mid-term Class Lists As with the paper mid-term class lists, the web version will be created and posted to the web for Fall and Spring full semester courses approximately two weeks prior to the end of the first half of the semester. Final Class Lists/Grade Sheets As with the paper final class lists/grade sheets, the web version will be created and posted to the web for courses for each session of Fall and Spring semesters approximately two weeks prior to the ending date of the session. Summer final class lists will be created approximately 1 ˝ weeks prior to the ending date of the session. Cumulative Registration Changes Once classes begin, updated registration changes by course are available weekly after Wednesday night system processing completes, through the end of the semester. The web version of the registration changes report maintains a cumulative record of registration changes for a course for the semester, and may be used in place of weekly paper registration changes currently provided by the Registrar's Office. Paper Class Lists and Registration Changes ReportsPaper-based class lists and registration changes are still being prepared by the Office of the Registrar at the present time. However, it is no longer necessary to contact the Registrar’s Office for a replacement copy. Faculty and/or department staff may reprint mid-term and final class list/grade sheets themselves through the web. When reprinting class lists/grade sheets for grade submission purposes, please be certain that only the class list with the heading of either mid-term or final class list/grade sheet, whichever is appropriate for the situation, is used. Over time, it is expected that the need for paper reports will diminish and that the mass production of paper reports will not be necessary.Faculty GradebooksGradebooks are available only in paper format at this time, and will continue to be prepared the night of the last day to drop the course without a ‘W’ (with a no report) and distributed to academic departments. The Office of the Registrar is interested in gathering feedback from faculty about the use of the paper-based gradebook. Do you currently use this gradebook? If not, what do you use? Is there any interest in a secure, centrally managed electronic gradebook, with a possible link to a web-based grade submission system? If so, what features would be necessary to meet your needs? Please send comments to patti.rust@uni.edu. Thank you for your valued input on this topic. Submission of GradesFuture plans are to build on the web-based class list platform to allow faculty to submit grades through a secure web-based system. Additional information will be made available as this project nears implementation.Who to Contact for Help and Additional InformationPlease send any questions, comments, or suggestions about this new service to Patti Rust, Associate Registrar, Student Systems and Services, at patti.rust@uni.edu. |
