Ken and John Hill

Repair has not only been a way of living for John and Ken Hill, it has been a way of life. Hill's Repair is a family business run by Ken Hill and his son, John. The business started years back when the family fixed the machines of Ken's co-workers. Although they always seemed to toy with the idea of running their own mechanics and repair shop, it was not until John graduated from high school and realized that repair was something he'd like to devote his life to, that their dreams became reality. A hobby and pastime smoothly developed into a proudly owned family business, and in 1982, Hill's Repair had been established.

Although Hill's Repair does not do much advertising, their company thrives off of local fame and regular customers. The people that bring their business to Hill's Repair are those that want quality work for reasonable prices and are happy with their outcomes. These people have been the business's greatest rewards. Satisfied customers drive Hill's Repair to do the best work possible in a timely fashion. Hill's Repair does all sorts of general repair. They deal with all services including engine, transmission, and computer repair.

What makes rewards special are the challenges, and Hill's Repair has had some great ones. Due to an electrical problem last September, a fire claimed most of their building and business and left little to be salvaged. In this devastation, the owners of Hill's Repair turned to the UNI Regional Business Center in hopes of rebuilding and rejuvenating their business and way of life. The Hills met with a counselor at the UNI RBC for guidance in constructing a work plan. They hold a high opinion of the UNI RBC and the help they received. The process of construction was easy due to the walk through the counselor gave them. Step by step they worked together.

Reflecting the trials and triumphs over the years, John Hill believes that dedication is critical to starting a business. As an owner who did start all over, dedication was key to his success. Although if it did burn down again, he would think twice before opening it's doors for a third time, John and Ken Hill are living the American Dream in being a business owner and working for themselves.
